Oh, I didn't know the 12-24mm was a DX lens.
For Nikon FX I've only really come across the 14-24mm vs. 16-35mm for wide zooms. Did you consider any other options?
Fair play. I just thought that if we have fixed, more general themes, it would encourage people to consistently take part. Roll on the 1st, I've got some new toys coming :)
Perhaps we could decide on a list of themes - one for each month of the year - instead of having the winner choose one after every round. Should give people more time to prepare something as they know what to expect.
I realise this doesn't solve the theme problem but I'm sure we can come up...

You need a webcam with a CCD sensor to get the best images. there was a Philips webcam that was quite popular with the astrotoggers but I forget which model it was.
an ND grad filter will be useful if you are finding it difficult to balance the exposure between sky and landscape. or you can combine two shots - one exposed for the sky and one for the landscape.
midday light is harsh and can be difficult to work with. I would go back at sunset/sunrise like...
