That's not one of the original 20 S1 E2's that were built by Audi, it's a replica.
It's still fapping awesome though! And that old 20v 5 pot is my favourite sounding engine of all time
Well I spent lunchtime getting it mot'd (which it passed with flying colours :-D ).
While it was up on the ramp, we investigated the noise. It still does it with the wheels off the ground, eliminating tyre noise. It's definitely coming from the near side. What we did find with the engine off...
My mate had a quick look around while he was doing the bearings and didn't notice anything. It's going back in there for an mot this month, so they'll be properly checked then. Tbh, I haven't checked the gearbox oil (always overlook the simple things :D ). I know the oil was changed a...
Yep, oe Renault bearings, and the hub nuts were torqued to the correct figures. The noise is exactly as it was before.
Danman - The tracking has all been checked/set. Let me know how you get on though :)
Really?
I've never been in one that's as noisy as this! I have to turn the stereo right up to drown it out!
It didn't do it when I got the car, and the tyres haven't worn down much.
I thought it was coming from the near-side. I'm sure it sounds louder from that side when there's a passenger in the front. Without a passenger though - It doesn't sound as side specific.
It doesn't increase in volume under cornering, UNLESS there's a passenger in the front. If so it gets...
What else can cause a wheel-bearing style rumbling sound?
My ph1 172 started rumbling just after I bought it, and it's been getting steadily worse over the last few months. It sounds just like a wheel-bearing to me, so I changed them all, it's still there.....
It's definitely coming from the...
I'm 32, and got my first Clio Sport three months ago. I've had r5gtt's for the last 12 years, and wanted to try out a 172. I got it off a mate to use as a cheap, every day run around, and love it.
Dare I say it, it might even be more fun to drive than my Evo VI. The Evo has barely had a...
Without wishing to hi-jack this thread too much, what else could cause poor mpg?
Driving carefully in my ph1 172, I'm getting around 32 mpg (mostly dual-carriageway - Not much stop-start). I did a 300 mile round trip (mostly motorway) the other week, and the most I could eek out of it was...
I find with T1-R's, it depends a lot on the car. I had them on my old 5gtt years ago, and they were awesome. I then bought some for my old Escort gti runaround, and they were worse than driving on ice, and only lasted a few k miles.
