Spring kits are the biggest con going. Got sick of mine blowing every 2 mins so just bolted the fooker up tight flange to flange and never been a problem since lol
Mate whats the difference between a cat and a decat? Nothing apart from a pipe stuffed full of material.
Removing the material creates less build up thus moving the gasses out more freely and efficiently
If your mpg's dropping off then check your lambda's or maybe look at the fueling side...
Your right, dosent matter what car someone has they can still loon it and crash but the more figures under the right foot someone has the more temptation is there to use it. Add inexperience into the equasion and the risks are naturally a lot higher than someone in a lower powered car.
Mines on a Y plate running two although not a exclusive.
There is 2 types of later cat, one running the 1 and one running 2 so you might only get your answer by having a look :(
Dont take it to ATS what ever you do.
Got my tracking done a few years back and the steering wheel was still offset, as it was prior to taking it in.
Went back and they told me there was nothing they could do as it was set to Renault specs and they cant change it. They said they'd have a look...
Stock 172's seem to make mid to high 160's so to get 10 bhp+ from a decat is a bit optimistic :)
Decat on a 172 do make a difference. Not sure about raw gains but it does free it up a noticeable amount
Its hard to tell from the vid but just from hearing that it sounds like a typical harsh 172 lump and highlighted by the low idle with the sewing machine effect.
Not sure about the Cups but the ph1 usually idles higher when cold then drops back when warm. Thats defo on the low side, you can...
What you got your idle at mate? sounds a bit on the low side.
Hard to tell from the vid. If its running ok apart from the noise then you could give it a oil change and see if that helps?
Just my opinion mate and im no expert but if that was me id get the dephaser fitted. Its a extra 140 but its peace of mind so long as that is the problem of course.
Pretty much all the time from memory but iirc more so when it was warmed up.
Thing is with the dephaser, everyone kind of reports slightly different noices and all the vids sound slightly different due to different recording devices etc
From reading on here most folk report it sounding like...
Its probably just the dephaser mate. Never heard of lifters and followers being a problem in these?
Got to point out i was running reprofiled cams at the time which apparently can make a difference although the noise hadnt happend before having covered 60k on them. Also the cars a high miler...
Just pm'd you back lol
Never found out as i replaced the lifters followers and dephaser all in the one hit but the noise sounded like it was coming right over the top of the plenum rather than the dephaser. No wear was found on the lifters and followers even tho it sounds pretty bad
