Oh Im sure it can be.
It is however thick, never looks right, impossible to touch up and a total PITA if you ever want/need to refinish a wheel again in the future.
If it was that good, OEMs would use it and as far as I'm aware, they all still use a paint based process.
It means it's boring on a long run, which was my point. A small hatch is fun in town or on the Twisties and boring when you're on a long run with no acceleration at motorway speeds.
Horses for courses!
It entirely depends what sort of driving you do.
I agree with @Mr Burns abotu small hatches being a laugh, but only on twisty backroads and in towns. On a long motorway run theyre awful.
Likewise I had a hilarious laugh at the weekend driving a P38 range rover with straight through exhausts...
mine was 1005kg on scales at knockhill with about quarter of a tank in it.
Thats stripped inside with a pair of buckets. Full dash, electric glass and cage.
Very cool indeed!
My first car was a mk2 1.4SR and that engine lived in another two cars before being converted to injection and making around 90hp.
My last nova was a C16XE corsa GSI engine and while that was off the road for upgrades I built a sleeper corsa B XE out of a faded pink 1.2.
Many...
That's good to know, thanks! It's fine for now, but I was a little worried no rebuild kits meant an inevitable dead ratchet in the future. If they hand out new ones then great!
I've just ordered a ratchet repair kit for my 1/4 drive ratchet and wanted to get spares for the other two for the drawer.
I found the 1/2" one but no sign of the 3/8" one on the website.
I called my local branch who informed me that they arent on the website, but couldnt confirm whether they'd...
Even the V8 conversion is fairly trivial as proper conversions go, but decent 2 door E30 shells start from 2 grand now in bog spec trim. You'll spend the same again sourcing and painting bumpers and trim. You then need your engine and box, ideally wrapped in a donor car which is a similar sum...
Oh, another thing to throw into the mix is to consider your diff alongside your gearbox.
It's all very easy to decide to use a BMW V8 with a BMW box, but BMW historically used very low final drive ratios (2.8-3.15) https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1899286-School-me-on-e39-diffs...
Thing is its no more or less absurd than 59k for a yellow hatchback with the engine installed in the wrong place, but people will pay it.
The problem with cosworths now is that even the bottom end useable cars are through the roof.
Whereas you can buy a clio 172 or 182 for buttons compared to...

Ah, nostalgia. First of all, those cars are MUCH lighter than even a focus and secondly, no, they werent fast.
The 2.3 cologne engine maxed out at 125bhp. Even the 2.8 was only 160, and the rover on carbs not much more. Quick in their day...

This company offers a complete bolt in conversion kit for the focus using the same basic engine as the MG ZT260 I believe.

No idea is the geometry or weight distribution are any good afterwards however.
Ford engine and box I believe. Considered fairly crap for an american engine, but better than most of what we have here. Fairly rare cars but certainly a decent option if you can find one.
The issue is that the early carb fed motors are utter junk for power and the later 4.0/4.6 engines have...
Yes and no
There were only ever about 700 in the UK (peak in 2008) and 560 of those are still taxed as of last year. The remaining 140 could be SORNed or broken

They have a bit of a cult following and you wont buy a complete car for...
This is the issue. In the US, you'll pick up a 5.3 vortec engine for $800 (iron blocked LS effectively) but once you import it here it's thousands again.
Many cheap jap and Euro v8s available here, but no good manual options.
Tbh most scrappers know what they have and when american vehicles do...
Because that's 7 grand for an engine with no ECU, starter motor, flywheel, accessory drive.....
You can add another:
£275 for a starter http://www.partsworldperformance.com/ls-series-starter-motor-kit
£880 for the accessory drive kit...
Nor me!
But (as I'm sure you are) I'd at least be aware of it and therefore do the saving and get it sorted ahead of the MOT.
I'd have clocked the exhaust blow, had a look underneath and decided how and when it needed sorting out. Whilst under there, you'd probably also notice the spring and...
They never crop up at the same time, you end up with that fail sheet because they crop up one by one and youre either not aware of them, or ignore them.
Exhaust major leak even my mum would hear and come saying "my cars broken"
Rear beam bushed dont just fail, they degrade a bit as a time and...
I'll go the other way:
If he doesnt have the skills to do it himself, nor mates with the time to help him, then the fact you can get used bits cheap is irrelevant and it's going to wind up being:
New exhaust section - £60 plus an hours labour at say £40
New shocks - £80 and springs £80
Pair of...
In which case the auto box situation is:
You can fit a manual quattro box, which is no use outwith an audi
You can fit manual FWD box I believe, which is only useful for M-R layouts.
No RWD box exists which will bolt on
Flywheels arent common at all
So once again you're back to looking for a...
