    Siri not working

iOS13 is pretty buggy, i moaned to apple about issues with safari rendering problems and got a reply from Craig Federaghi earlier this evening. Safari is absolutely doing my nut in, i’m literally force quitting it every few minutes, i’m not the only one reporting this issue.

    Iphone 11 + Apple watch 5

Yeah, I paid about $60 which was a bargain, it's absolutely brilliant and quality - and something that Apple couldn't get to work properly! Actually kicking myself that I didn't buy more at the time.

    Iphone 11 + Apple watch 5

My wife bought me a S5 for my birthday (was back in June, but I was happy to wait till the refresh). I love the new one with the screen on all the time, haven't noticed any difference really in battery life between my old S2 and this one. Wife has now inherited my old one. For me, I was...

You're not alone mate. With me being a software dev I should love android, I think its ok but it just feels clumsy for some reason. I like many of the customisations of it, replacement of system apps and stuff (apple allow you to remove the mail app, but won't let third party apps handle...

    Philips Hue and Living colours

I've got the innr filament bulbs because they were out before the Philips ones, really impressed with them and they're hue compatible. Would't hesitate to buy them again and as a bonus they're cheaper. My hue system is out of control....

    New android box/fireTV needed

Yeah its not cheap, occasional offers on amazon though. Ivd tried quite a few different android boxes (including Firetv models and the shield is way out in the lead. We have 3 of them in the house.

    Electronics

I found a video of the system I developed using a Raspberry Pi (Think it was a Pi 2), this is quite a few years old. The application is written using Qt and the GUI is a Qml frontend with C++ backend. It's a controller system that was used in our building, we developed all the hardware...

Cheers..... ....I assume you’ve had a username change, can’t work out who you are! Sorry! (If I had to hazard a guess, Sharky?) Anyway, yeah, real life got in the way, so busy with work I forgot to login here, before I knew it months had passed! Just designed a small project to read/write SFP...

Yep, pretty much. My brain is fuzzed now (my liver is failing so I have issues with my brain as I get tired) but that’s the gist of it, have a play and remember the stackoverflow website is your friend! If you get really stuck, then give me a holla and I’ll take a look for you, I only briefly...

Infact it’s even easier, it’s python. The code there is reading *any* joystick, all you need to do is check the event.joy parameter to see which joystick caused the event and then do what you want depending on which one it was.

Yeah, you’d add the program to rc.local or create a systemd unit (assuming you’re using something like raspbian). It’s very easy. I’ve used yocto in the past to create custom distributions which boot to a Qt program, that’s considerably harder to do, but results in a small distribution which...

    Iphone 11 + Apple watch 5

Safari on iOS13 is awful, I find myself having to force quit it way to too many times in the day because the rendering goes wrong. Although they have fixed a bug bear of mine with passwords, in the previous versions you couldn’t turn off iCloud Keychain as a password manager source but you can...

    Password manager thing?

I use bitwarden, but that’s because I self host a server.

    Sound bars ?

I've got loads of Sonos kit, but the fact that it doesn't support anything other than AC3 is a pain, I had to lobby hard to get Plex to support a mode which allowed transcoding of DTS server side and when I switched the Emby they also added a feature after I requested it to allow this to happen.

    3D printing people

Cheers guys, i’ll Have to have a think. There’s an updated caddy for the 3b in the comments, would cost a fortune to get printed professionally, way more than I’m willing to pay! I’m amazed that there is little in the way of already available pi rack mounts available.

    Recommend me a new TV

I bought a smaller member of the family of that LG one (49SK8100) for the bedroom and I really like it. I don’t like the magic remote (like a wii remote) but if you click the the arrows on the remote it functions as a normal remote would, just wish I could turn off the cursor permanently!

    Apple live event today

Years ago I heard people questioning whether there would be an ARM based Mac, I dismissed it at the time (I work on embedded systems with ARM processors) because we weren't yet at the point at which the chips were powerful enough to take on intel, but since Apple are designing their own chips...

Moving to a Mac/macbook.. anyone made the jump?

It's mainly because of the design aesthetics, making the laptops thinner means that things like RAM have to be soldered directly onto the board, there just isn't the space inside for stacked boards with connectors, I've also never had a Mac fail with a memory issue. On my 2016 TB MBP the...

    Apple live event today

Tempted to upgrade to a XS MAX, I'm one of those odd folks that doesn't use much storage. Just checked my 128GB 7+ and in the 2 years of ownership I've used 32 GB, so I really don't use much storage. (Got 256GB TB MBP and have only used 128 GB of that in 2 years) I have unlimited data (sim...
