easy solution to this make a bookmark in your bookmarks toolbar called "new tab" and edit it to be your homepage then when you want a new tab, just right click and open in new tab.

Yeah they open as normal from the inside, they are just locked from the outside. And if you have a crash and the door is wedged you are fucked anyway ;)
