    Sure that's not it's design? It's actually gone semi-sane in that it uses ALL memory all the time, and caches stuff, etc.

    You'll need to check that board compatability.. but the CPU is dual core. (People are saying in the review it works ok with the X2 CPU's.. but I'd double check on the manufacturer site!) The CPU is OEM tho, which means it doesn't come with a heatsink and fan, so you'll need to add one on!

    That processor is not dual core.. XP works fine with Dual Core, yep. Athlon X2 for Dual Core if you want AMD.

    Spec is pretty low to be honest.. I'd say you want at least Vista Home Premium with 1GB RAM.. Out of those three, I'd go for the Gateway ML6227b 15.4" Laptop Have you looked around at other makes etc..? Dell normally do some stupid deals?

    Poor. OSX, turn on printer, file - print, and it's there (providing it's a network printer and mDNS'd ;)) But, I have a Dell laptop now.. so it don't matter, haha. ;) Anyway, if I was recommending a distro to a new user, I'd always say Ubuntu.. it's based on Debian, so it wins by default...

    It's perfectly possible for £0 and a bit of hardware if you use a Linux Proxy solution. It could be ISA Server which does cost money, it could be Squid, it could be bespoke software, it could even be a piece of hardware .. but, it's definetly possible.. ;)

    Well, if 3.5GB takes 8 hours.. then that's an average of 124kB/sec.. I guess your ISP isn't overly happy with torrent traffic and is limiting it as much as they can.. ;) Can't you just goto the relevent website for the update and download via HTTP/FTP?
