As far as i know the popping that ur on about is something to do with the remote wire mate, its the hu turning the amp off and on again but not sure why it does it or why only some subs pop when doing it, if it was a bad earth then it wouldnt work at all. The same with dogy wiring, if there was...

If its the bearings going u should be able to hear it, but if u cant jack the car up and spin the wheel when its free off the ground. if the bearings ok itll just spin silently but if the bearings on its way out ull hear some resistance while its spinning. Ull notice it when u hear it.
