Ahh - wondered if this car was on the forum! Occassionally see you driving around Droitwich - I'm in the 172 Cup track car with the 2118's and cage (which is now very poorly :(
Looks like you have a good engine there!
Update# 10 - Donington Park - 16-9-2011
Unfortunately no pictures or video from this event. I normally take pics and turn on the camcorder post lunch break but I was a bit busy scratching my head at this particular point...
...Met Mike (+gf) just before 8:30am in garage #9 at Donington Park...
Thanks for all the comments guys.
Trouble is we had a little more than just vapour entering the inlet tract. It was hard to gauge how much oil but enough to run down the inlet hose and through the panel filter and be visible in the bottom of the airbox!
Now it's been cleaned up we had no...
UPDATE #9 - Tracking and Brace
Again, I have been slacking with the updates on this build so I have fallen a bit behind - this is the first of two updates.
We had booked a trackday for Friday (just gone) at Donington Park. In preparation for this we decided to have the tracking checked and...
Lol - yeh it did. Although I would prefer the smoke not to happen when the engine inhales said oil that's was sitting in the inlet. Also stops passengers panicking and fumbling with harness release when I pull off track, thinking the car is just about to catch fire;)
Got home fine thanks. Not a...
Thanks for the diagram.
So, if we were to fabricate one I know the oil gets caught in the tank but do you need an exhaust on the tank to breath in to atmosphere. I was thinking outlet pipe with small filter towards the top of the tank
No shims and filed the pads so nice bit of room to move. Plus a bit of copper grease on the contact points:)
Not long come in from fitting our latest purchase. Something from Pure Motorpsort- it's quite nice!
I like the sound of that:)
I was just going to get tracking done as it's a bit out since the new subframe has gone in and was going to wait until corner weighting before doing full geo. However, if they can the camber quickly and for the same price I will try and get that adjusted now too. I'm...
Lol - yes, we have grp N discs!! And when you realise grp N is almost unmodified motorsport it almost reads OEM
On a side note Sam, do you run 8 minutes toe OUT on the front? I'm getting tracking done tomorrow.
Had a quick look at the box when I got back home this evening and found the following:
HC is ticked on the box so one can only presume we have the correct discs:) I think the lack of wear dot and me picking up on the more obvious "group N" ref on the sticker put doubt in my mind.
Thank you for taking the time to post this info. I will check the box later but think I know where this is going already.
Mike - I will let you know what we have got a bit later
Nick
Rollox! Will look into it - thanks for the heads up. Brakes feel immense at the moment though although wheels covered in dust after 30 miles is laughable:)
Thanks. No engine work at the moment. To be honest the motor pulls really well and weight reduction was are free path to slightly quicker acceleration. Cams would be next I think - ITBs after that although I still think they are very expensive for the gains.
UPDATE #8 - Couple of upgrades
Yesterday saw Mike and I work on the car for the first time since our track day at Oulton Park. Since then a few parts have turned up in the post so we took the opportunity to fit them.
We started at the back of the car and as the arches have yet to be cleaned...
Nikasil can still bite you later on in the cars life. My brothers failed at around 100k. A real simple test is to open drivers door and let car idle. If window vibrates have a closer look at engine and oil usage etc.
DaveF is a common mod but fitting a modified inlet manifold from a 325 (328...
We spoke to the driver after Mike had a great little battle with him (whick I witnessed from the Pit wall). Cooper S with JCW package, KW suspension and track tyres. Seemed to go quite well!
DS2500 - our pedal went a little soft running these too. We now have some DS3000 ready to go in
LOL - hope you dont mind this appearing on the video. Thought we might be able to look back on it and have a laugh. Was going to subtitle "get off the brake" for more dramatic effect;)
Update #7 - 1st Trackday with the Cup
AS previously documented we were able to make this trackday by the skin of our teeth. We picked the car up from BTM at 6am. On our arrival I had my doubts that the car would be ready as Fred strolled out, puffing on a fag, quoting "I've been working on her...
Nice pics Jonny!
I didnt take anywhere as many shots as you but will post them up a bit later anyway. Wish I had walked around the circuit a bit more now rather than just leaning over the pit wall - too busy driving/passengering though:)
For reference - what lens were you shooting with...
UPDATE #6 – Maintenance Required
I have fallen a little bit behind with the thread over the last week as it has been quite a busy time leading up to our first track day at Oulton Park. So, for clarity, I will split the updates in to two portions – PRE trackday and POST trackday (UPDATE #7)...
Great read Phil,
We are at similar levels to you at the moment with our car. Opted for 1/2 cage to see us through for rest of the season but will probably get full cage over the winter etc.
I removed the dash on ours only a couple of weeks ago so your pictures are a bit de ja vu :)
I...
I have used 3M and I like it. Having said that, applying the wrap around some curves can be difficult. I have done my fog light covers, which were easy, but the wing mirrors frustrated the hell out of me. Trying to end up at a spot where the vinyl hasnt gathered is a bit of a pain. I nearly gave...
Wheels make the car look so much better than before. I bet it drives a bit nicer too?
Lovely disks;) I thought cracked disks normally refer to a hairline crack running across them, you could get a screw driver in that and prise it open:) good excuse as any to get some standard items back on...
Good start to your project mate! Seems like there are more and more Cups cropping up on the forum intended for track use- good thing:)
About 10 years ago I used to have a Nova with a 2L 16v, Webber carbs and Courtney cams - absolute flying machine down the straights, crap in the bends. Good fun...
