Check the wiring loom running under the dash near the bonnet release on the left hand side, sometimes can be loose and results in the immobiliser kickin in. I had this problem for ages, broke down a while back and couldnt get a jump, called highways to tow me back, charged me £75 +vat to plug...
Although I've only got a 1.2 16v, I do tend to try and get the most out of it where I can. I don't tend to thrash it, steady away through 1st, 2nd and 3rd, then keep my foot planted to the deck through 4th and 5th and drive at speed. I have to go through a lot of wide A-Roads on my way to work...
I've got an 01 1.2 16v Dynamique, and I love it! It is perhaps a little underpowered (had a go in my mates 182 and it scared me!) but certainly for a first car its more than adequate. Reaches 70+ quick enough, and it'll pull 110 on the motorway. Its a lot quicker than my mates 1.2 fiesta, so...
