been lookin into it on cam upgrades from ktec, one with VVT one without i asume that the one with vvt will give you more top end and i asume that the ones without will give me more bottom. am i correct? is keepin VVT worth it? is ktec cams crap?

it will do coz the stepper motor will only adjust th idle to compinsate for power steering air con etc, but some times it goes crazy! and needs replaceing, when the cars in neutrol ther is nothing stopping the revs jus gradually pickin up, but with it in gear it hardly affects it about 2k revs...

the VVT is responible as you said it would idle like shite without it dueto the profile of the cams, they r****d as the revs pick up and if the timing did not variate, you would hav a better ride in a tank, the VVT uses some kind of liquid balencing system from what i understand, so without VVT...

damm i want a ktec so bad, fitting will cost you £20-30 MAX, at any normal garrage. or jus fit it ya self, easy they custom made for the car so it fits in all the hooks etc, to pins out the downpipe, bish,bosh,bash and its jobs a guddun.

try checking the stepper motor, its a box linked to the throttle which controls the ilde running speed of the engine, sometimes they go mental and need replaceing, could also lead to damage of fuel potentiometer

this is your VVT (varible valve timing). gotta love this thing, its wher it gets its 172 from, it prob goes from 110 to like 160 bhp in the space of 3900-4100rpm creep up to 4000 in second and then stamp it, great if some cocky little scrot in a punto thinks hes got power is up ure arse.

first up strap some 1000cc injectors and a nos kit...............joke in fact the only way of getting real power gain is by tweaking the engine to cram more fuel into the engine, so a simple formula is effective here. more money + more proformance mods = more power + more fuel consuption...

thanks for your help ppl but giv into the dark side and brought a aftermaker HU took me 3min install and sound quallty is miles better as i knew, jus didnt want giv in. however will be able to reintall the satilte stalk with wiring addapter however CD changer is gone for good!! :(
