    gaming

Stand alone, the valve complete pack is the way to go though. £14 for CSS or get all the Valve games for £50. Well worth it for HL1 and 2, team fortress 2, Left 4 dead etc etc.

    gaming

If you do want to game, run Windows. The drivers are basically massively better in windows for the hardware. Don't use the bootcamp GPU drivers. Go to the ATI site and get the mobility drivers. Then you are looking at around a 30-50% speed increase over OSX in games. OSX is good for general...

Using an iMac as a monitor...?

720P input only just need the right adaptor, not cheap though if I remember correctly. To be honest it isn't really worth it. It is only really mean to take input from other macs. Or other GPU's with the correct port.

Using an iMac as a monitor...?

There are issues with the iMac display and it taking native res signals. It can do it, but it has to be done via display port input. Even then it only likes certain GPU's. If you google it, you will find quite a lot of people pissed off with apples implementation when it comes to input devices...

Just achieved a huge detailing goal

Thought I had seen this on the road. Explains why, often in an around Middleton to see Friends. Nice car but not my favourite year, would prefer a 67 or 69 personally. But at least it's a fastback.

    Operating system?

The thing is with a few tweaks Firefox is just as fast often faster and has far more extensions. Which does make it a better experience. However for people that don't want to get as deep into things. Chrome is a great browser on any platform. Most people wouldn't even know how to access the...

    Operating system?

Why not, it's more mature on the windows platform for a start. Mainly due to the extra 12 months they have worked on it.

Red orchestra 2 sounds rather interesting as well. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/01/11/red-orchestra-2-heroes-of-stalingrad-preview/ Lots of games like this coming out. Least we on the PC platform get to play in 64 player goodness though :)

    Michelin Pilot Sport 3

They have similar amounts of rim protection that a PE2 does comparing them in my 225/40/18 profile.

    New Build - Thoughts

Do they not have display port outputs? I mean I can run 6 monitors from my ATI cards.

    New Build - Thoughts

I don't even think that's possible at the moment. The monitors and hardware just don't exist in the main stream yet. Plus cabling would be a big issue, as the bandwidth use would be massive. Much more than dual link DVI can output.

    Had my Steam account nicked

If you purchased the games via steam, did you keep the email invoice? I always store mine just in case, as they should be able to sort it through the invoice.

    New Build - Thoughts

Good luck then. Can't imagine it being easier than the first one to run. And the first one is still a hardware killer. Might want to save up for a tri sli 580GTX rig. As that is the only thing that will get 60FPS out of it at max details....maybe. Even two 580GTX's in SLI at that res only...

    Half-Life 2 - Revisited [s**t thread]

Doom3 was the better looking game at the time, but it did require a pretty beasty machine to run. If I remember correctly. Thing is these Games are what 8 years old? The original HL around 13 years old? Yet gameplay wise I think they can easily compete with the more modern shooters.

    Half-Life 2 - Revisited [s**t thread]

You should check out CinematicMod Roy. Really freshens up the games graphics, adds new geometry, higher res textures, better models for faces etc. http://cinematicmod.com/cm_10.php

    New Build - Thoughts

That 2nd 580 is gonna be a bugger to add in with where you put the pump. Also what is the unused molex connector for on the motherboard? Aren't they normally there to help keep the power stable on the board and so should be used? Just like the one near the PCI-E area is for helping power the GPU's.

Choosing a console? Some great advice here....

Quite easy yes. If you download the drivers from ATI rather than using boot camp you should be able to up the speed somewhat in the official drivers. I also believe under the normal ATI drivers they jump back up to their standard clocks anyway. But really you want the software to up the fan...

Choosing a console? Some great advice here....

The iMac is basically a laptop when it comes down to it. It's based on laptop architecture so used laptop spec GPU's, Memory etc. Obviously they aren't as good as the desktop counterparts. However Apple for some reason underclocked the GPU they put into the iMac. It's actually supposed to be...

MBP 13" Vs 15" - Which Would You Go For!?

15" because my 13" screen does pee me off. Res is too low. Plus you get a better GPU and better CPU in the 15". So well worth the extra cash. i5 > Core 2 Duo. I would go 15" with high res screen personally.

Choosing a console? Some great advice here....

Not like it makes any difference anyway...could you imagine an iMac trying to game at its native res with a mobility based and underclocked 5850 GPU? Imagine crysis on it? I doubt it would be multiple FPS during fights as opposed to SPF.

I've crossed to the dark side! (MBP content)

That scratch would piss me off to no end. Knowing it was there would mean I would be looking for it every time I used the machine. Not right for a new laptop at all. It should be absolutely perfect, not a single mark on it.

I've crossed to the dark side! (MBP content)

Am I the only one looking at the drive benchmarks and thinking that the speeds are low on the SSD? Just in my windows machine running benchmarks 256kb block my read speed is over 270mb/s on a single drive which for all intents and purposes is basically identical to the OCZ drive. I run the...

    Anyone play minecraft?

It is supposed to be really good and very in depth. To the point you can create pretty much anything in it. You have people making up entire train lines, with different stations etc over the world. Which is HUGE talking properly huge now. Roughly 8 times the surface area of the earth is the...

    Building Your Own PC?

The customer service from them is appalling. If you complain on the forums as well, you basically get banned. Not used them in years, as I had problems last time I ordered from them.

    My new i5 MacBook Pro.

Apple charge extortionate amounts for RAM upgrades though. Really does piss me off how much they charge, as you literally can buy the exact same modules direct from the company that supply Apple. For less than half what Apple charge. Anyone who spec's up memory on a new build with them has more...

    My new i5 MacBook Pro.

I wish they would offer a proper quad core i7 in the laptops as well. Only thing that annoys me with Apple at the moment. Think they must be one of the only premium computer suppliers that don't use quad core i7's in there high end laptops. I could understand in the Macbook but not to give the...

    New Build - Thoughts

How come you are waiting for a watercooled GTX580? Why not just get a normal 580 and buy the water block separate? I mean they charge you around £200 more for the waterblock with the card versus £60 to buy it on its own. Some of the card manufacturers are quite happy with cooler swaps as well...
