the 172 I have now seems to have more issues than all the cars me and my family have had combined - a Opel Kadett, Rover 620, Mini Cooper, 320Cd, Mini Cooper S, Z4 3.0, Skoda Fabia, Peugeot 206...
loose exhaust pipe, dying battery, engine/gearbox mount issues, flaky steering wheel, mirror...
I'm having the same issue in a 172 ph1...
say I'm in 5th gear and around 50-60 km/h, if I get off then on the throttle I end up with a loud knock / soft bang
my 172 seems to be at around 34-37 mpg in the entire region of 70km/h to 120km/h
combined seems to be around 33 mpg
I need to look into what speed I need to drive at for highest mpg but I don't recall ever seeing more than 40 mpg while holding constant speed :(
s**t seating position - too high
no adjustment for steering wheel reach - car's designed for a chimpanzee with long arms and short legs
clutch is too hard - Z4 with a lot more power has a clutch 1/2 as hard and a lot easier to modulate
- throttle is cable operated - again, lack of smoothness...
definitely not all performance cars
my Z4 3.0i has a very light clutch and I can feel the biting point just fine, makes driving a lot easier and I never stall in that car
Besides the noise from the manifold hitting the car under hard acceleration in 1st gear, I hear a knock / soft bang each time I get on the throttle hard in the first few gears
I'm guessing that I'll need to get all 4 mounts looked at?
I've test driven one other car, but not hard enough to be familiar.
The KW V1 coilovers, brake disks and pads were installed recently so they should probably be ok (if not then he's probably been to a track). Thanks for all the tips! :hail:
yeah he says he didn't use it on track but was intending to, not sure how I can check though
the original seatbelts are still there, can see them in the pictures of the ad: http://nl.autoscout24.be/Details.aspx?id=140435837
ah yeah, remapped
it's from 2000, 61,000 km
the guy had the mods done within the last year and then got his gf pregnant, lol
belts were done within the last 3,000 km
That's been done at a shop in brussels that I know well - all the small modifications I had done to my Z4 (CDV removal, brake lines, pads, fluid) were done there.
To be honest I don't see the point... 635 Euros for a small improvement from 169 to 184hp: http://www.power-plus.be/pdf/renault.pdf
I'm not very familiar with what I need to do when checking over a 2nd hand car... and unfortunately due to timing, a friend won't be able to come along.
I read this guide but was wondering if ClioSport has any other advice for me, tips on things to watch out for...
not sure... most reprogram seem to only up the power to 180hp or so for the Polo GTI but I'm not very familiar with it
saw 200+ here though:

I've tried the VW Polo GTI 1.8T and that was a cracking little car. Perhaps not as fast as the 172/182 but feels much better put together with a very nice interior.
How strange, just realised that the rear lights are ph2 as well...

I think it looks better this way but the owner has...
The owner agreed to going through the comprehensive test this saturday, but I'm still having trouble finding pictures of the pre facelift bump strips and rear bumper to prove my point :dead:
edit: wait now I'm confused... just found this thread where the rear bumper looks the same, perhaps...
thanks :)
I have 2 options for getting it inspected, either at VAB's (Belgian roadside assistance) diagnostics center (a bit more trouble to get to, possibly longer waiting time)
107.5 Euros to check:
- alignment
- engine codes
- general check of engine compartment
- general check of the...
I just called, he keeps claiming everything is original and hasn't been changed... Perhaps I should get it inspected by a Renault dealer before I fork over the cash :S
I'm now suspecting it was rear ended and the rear end replaced...
If the chassis wasn't damaged I'm not going to make a fuss...
Thanks for confirming the heavy clutch and pointing out the bumper issue, I didn't know that. I did notice the rear bumper didn't seem to align perfectly with the car body at the rear left - might it have been in an accident that required the rear to be repaired?
I asked whether the car was...
Re: new member from Belgium, Clio RS 172 replacing Z4 3.0i
wow! thanks for the imediate response! :hail:
I forgot to upload the pictures that the owner used in the ad
I must say that although I'll definitely miss the Z4, I really look forward to driving the Clio too, as well as the 2 added seats.
Hi everyone. I'm a 26 year old Asian male from Belgium. Found this great forum today and as I'm about to get a RS Clio 172, thought I'd pop in to say hi.
My current car is a 2003 Z4 3.0i, it's been great fun, but I'm going to business school for a while starting in February (so a lot less...
