Good advice mate cheers!
I'll make sure I call him whilst on my lunch. As I'm sure I'm going to have many annoying questions!
I can't wait to get it all sorted, and begin to enjoy the bloody car!
When it's all back together I'll be heading to SRR for that mapping session, unless something...
Hi Scott,
No real update as of yet. Hopefully going to get the old girl into work next week and drop the engine.
I have messaged Alyn from AS Performance via the Type RA forum and I'm going to phone him on Tuesday to discuss things and get my parts ordered.
With the engine removed it's going...
Being a much later Impreza than mine You must have a different expansion bottle than mine bud, because if mine was 6 inches down, it would be bloody empty!
If you've still got gurgling noises after they've replaced the hoses I'd say it's safe to say there's air in the system.
I'm no expert...
Not sure on the burning smell/smoke bud. Can you see where it's coming from?
Apart from the new radiator hoses have they fitted anything else that could break down when heated?
Or have re-positioned something that could now be getting hot?
As for the gurgling sound I'd say whoever has...
Not sure mate, I'd like to hope he hadn't a clue. He came across as a decent bloke if I'm honest!
Either way it doesn't matter now, I've just got to crack on with it and do this Impreza some justice! [emoji23]

Thanks Jon, that's some good advice!
We had a Subaru Legacy Outback in a couple of months ago for a head gasket failure. It was the 2.5 engine, but it seems they are also well known for letting the head gasket go!
Certainly was an interesting job, and like you say much different to a normal 4...
I haven't got the room mate!
Not at all bud.
Unlike the Trophy the Type RA had quite a few optional extras, the first owner of mine was obviously a bit of a sop because he opted for both aircon, and electric windows.
Both of which I would like to return to boggo spec!

Cheers Dan,
Yeah I'm very fortunate to manage a garage full of supportive technicians (mostly 😂) who are going to help me!
With only parts to pay for I count myself very lucky indeed!
It's less than ideal bud!
Thanks Scott! Obviously once I'm all sorted and the Impreza is...
This car is really fighting me now... :weary:
The Impreza developed two faults last week. One has been rectified, the other could be seen as an early Christmas present... 😢
The first issue was that one morning into work the car was suffering with massive turbo/boost cut and when you hit...
Is it just me or do those registration plates just look too modern?
Maybe just a set of plates without the GB logo would look better?
Just my opinion of course! Loving the car bud!
That's promising news mate!
Really looking forward to it now!
Fingers crossed the weather holds up bud, as it would make for an awesome day, and If they can fit you in after me that would be ideal! Hopefully they're not too busy...
I was also hoping to make a visit to these guys on...
Cheers Scott.
That would be awesome mate! Would be great to meet you and the Spec C. My session is booked for 10am so I'd imagine I'll be there for most of the morning/midday
Fantastic opportunity to get some photos of the two together. I'm not sure who you would need to speak to regarding a...
*Update*
No more exhaust issues! However it still wasn't a straightforward repair...
A new turbo up-pipe was fitted (OE de-cat) felt weird fitting a standard part back to one of my cars! [emoji23] but I'm trusting the advice given to me from a well respected mapper.
Once that was fitted the...
I have no intention to do that at the moment mate, as I'd like to sell it as a complete kit.
As it currently stands the whole kit has provisionally sold.
You don't need a slim rad, I just used the original. (I had little brackets that re-position the radiator to accommodate)
*Rotrex C30 supercharger and bracket
*Supercharger oil cooler and filter
*Engine oil cooler
*Pipework/hoses/filter
*Gen90 ECU or simmilar
*Forced induction MAP sensor...
Loving the new Holden!
It's very marmite, but I did some research on it and it was quite a beast back in the day.
Customer's could even spec a 10k option to have the engine blueprinted!

Lesson learnt!? What have you got to learn mate? The bloke is obviously an utter c**t!
As far as I'm concerned you've done nothing wrong bud.
Some people really are complete scum.
I hope you get it fixed chap!

Mine was even more restrictive than your original down pipe mate. That section on the right was blanked off flush with the flange itself!
Thankfully my replacement down pipe resembles your third photo bud.
Your wrapping skills are exemplary sir!

It does appear that way mate.
Although to be fair to the previous owner I don't think these were fitted by him. In fact the modifications he carried out are sympathetic and of good quality.
'Bellmouth' that's it! A good description and that's exactly what my replacement down-pipe is like...
The down-pipe really was in a poor state! I'm unsure of the brand as it is indeed a de-cat pipe, but it's not stainless steel as it's so badly corroded and the metal itself is magnetic which is a sure sign of mild steel! It's design was also pretty poor as half of the flange going onto the turbo...
I'm afraid it has provisionally sold mate, just waiting to be removed.
As for the gaitor unless I did have something different fitted, I assumed it was just an OE part.

Dave is your man bud!
If you ask him nicely I'm sure he will let you use his oven!
I left my bag of powder at his, and when mixed with another bag that he has you'll get an effect like mine.

I was just basing my estimates on the fairly sorry looking examples currently for sale... They definately need some TLC!
And I did say upwards! [emoji6]
