Re: 182 FF with cup packs worth the extra over 172 FF? That is insane. Take the 172 anyday. No difference to a 182 apart from the exhaust. And maybe the loss of CC which isn't major tbh.

Having come from a Cooper S the one thing I really do miss is the standard stereo, which was very good. Obviously the 182's is sh*te. Just wondering what headunits etc you are all running to get a decent sound. I'm not interested in amps, subs, 6x9's etc, just a good headunit and some decent...

I don't think anybody in this thread dismissed them. There is no arguement that they are a vast improvement over normal tyres during the winter months.

It didn't but you made the comparison. And yes I have briefly driven on snow tyres, not very far though. They do increase grip, but fitting them does turn your car into a go everywhere machine.

Saying that you'll get as much grip with snow tyres on an icy hill as you will with normal tyres on a regular day in July is ridiculous though.

You've just proved my point. Even with snow tyres this woman is still a terrible driver, so will therefore probably crash anyway.

I'm more thinking about the lack of machinery to clear the roads and grit them. Even with winter tyres I'd be willing to say 95% of the population wouldn't have the ability to drive an untreated road. Hence why even when we do attempt to grit them the country still grinds to a halt.
