It's the Mpg to performance ratio that hurts most... I owned a Megane 225 after the 197 and it was significantly better on fuel, and a fair bit faster.
Luckily it's all off bar the roof and the bonnet which are changeable if need be... I'm certainly thinking of getting the bonnet repainted or even buying another.
Cheers for the suggestion. The worst part is that the carbon wrap won't peel, it just breaks up. It'll going to take weeks unless I can find a quicker way.
As you may have seen my Mk1 up for sale on here I've been looking for something newer to replace it. The Mk1 has been faultless and loads of fun over the past 4.5 years, but I felt it was time for a change. Then last week I was offered Banzai Magazine's old Mk3 project car, so I've decided to...
I disagree with the 'take your budget and double it' comments... I've been doing trackdays for years and years and I've spent next to nothing on my cars. Most of them got tracked in the same condition as I bought them.
As said budget can be as low as you want... If you're not worried about looking cool or having the best spec car you can do it really cheap. I spent £1200 on a Suzuki Ignis and used it as both track car and daily, and I didn't buy anything for it other than replacing tyres when they got low...
I'll never forget the moment I was putting in a decent lap at the 'Ring and one of those 250 Cup's passed me like I was standing still, chasing after a GT3.
That looks good fun, and doesn't look underpowered either. Really like the Primera GT, I nearly bought one a couple of years back with the same intentions of using it as a track toy.
Haven't used to MX-5 much lately due to the appalling weather, but now it's back with new brakes and tyres thanks to @George@RTR_Parts and BRSCC MX-5 driver Martin Tolley. I gave it a clean today too...
Tidy!
Nearly bought a Mk3 several times in the past. I like the idea of a 'modern' MX-5 that's fine to use daily, but then I get back in my Mk1 and I'm reminded how much more fun they are.
I'll still end up with a Mk3 one day... Love what you've done with yours by the way, it looks great.
I love my MX-5... It's officially the car I've owned the longest. They can push on quite well in the right hands but yes, you'd notice a significant lack of power coming from a Clio to a stock MX-5. I wouldn't let it put you off though, they're great fun.
