Have you been in hibernation? yes it does afftect you, and basically it requires a bit of maintenance on your part to grease the catch and make sure the bonnet is closed properly after you open it!
Think there must be some problem here.
In my 51 plate 1.4 I usually get 325 to a tank of tesco fuel but recently ive been using shell unleaded and im seeing 400miles and its running alot better too.
I usually drive fairly granny in which case i get 45mpg but if i rag it a bit i get 38mpg

to be honest id be a bit sus if someone wanted my reg... so many scams and fraud things going on etc.
as said before the brake linings have shed, chances are you wont be able to pull the hub off, you will need to rotate the drum in the opposite direction to the way you were travelling... i had to use a long breaker bar and scaffold tube to move mine when my mk2 shed its linings.
