Well 02 plate 172's with that sort of mileage and history are going for less than 3k, so if you got between 3.5 and 4 you'd be doing well.

You shouldn't have to save up for a cup if you've sold a Leon Cupra TDI. Definatley a buyers market at the minute and Cups have come down so much in the last year!

I bought a 172 afew weeks ago that had already had its cambelt changed, got the reciept and they only charged the previous owner £325 (6months ago), but that didn't include aux belt, can't see that adding a lot to the cost. Bought the car from Bolton, so that isn't too far from you is it...

Is there any way you can check condition of aux belt without actually taking it off??

yeh its pretty close, don't think I can move it any further back due to the length of wires.

Well Mr Mark i kind of realised before posting this thread that a smaller battery would solve the problem. But just thought it was strange that if I wanted a battery from several sites on the net for a 172 they would sell me an 8 inch battery. So wondered if that was what size most people had in...

I read somewhere else that it should be a 063, but they are 8 inches.....

Or just order one 15mm storter bright spark! lol

Had a look on a website and all there batterys for a 172 where 8 inches long! Which is what I've got on now but is 15mm too long!

It does seem to be a buyers market at the minute, I got my 02 172 a couple of weeks ago for a good price, for cash there and then!

Where did you get it done? Not far from me. Do you mind me asking how much it costed to change the aux belt? cheers
