    CTR vs. 182

I think we have lost track of what we were talking about now. Back to the original subject!!!! The CTR is a better car but it isnt better value for money. I believe that was what was concluded in the last hundred threads on this subject.

    CTR vs. 182

I like the 182 because it can upset people in expensive cars but if I wanted a decent missus instead of the bint I have now Id go out and buy some 318.

    CTR vs. 182

Yes I agree, people spend all that time and money tuning cars but I still rather just buy a decent car to start with. I still cant get over why people in car clubs are so obsessed with standing start figures. Looking at the mods and the cost required to get that 106 up to CTR speed (and the...

    CTR vs. 182

Given how much work is required to get 200+ bhp out of a 172 that would be one seriously heavy tuned 106 if it was pulling away from CTRs. I dare say with a medium amount of work and expense you could get it producing reasonable 0-60 times perhaps low 6s but from 80mph onwards you would need...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

The very basic Caterhams start at a lot less, the superlights are a bit more hardcore and start higher. You have to get away from mickey mouse 0-60 figures, they can be deceiving and have no bearing on real world performance. Some people like 0-100 or quarter miles but I feel that standing...

    Insurance Claim - Rubbish Settlement

How come its put your insurance up double? Or is that explained in another thread somewhere?

    sell for a VX yes/no!

The 2.2 engine is no older than the 172/182 engine and I wouldnt say it was coarse. Its as smooth as any 4 cylinder engine can be with a nice spread of power and torque. However that nice spread of power and torque is also its problem in a sports car application. It was designed for the Vectra...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

I get the impression that you are another one of these people that have already made their mind up that they want the car. It is pretty easy to spot people like that because when someone says "yes its a great car buy it" you say "thanks for your opinion I appreciate it" but when someone says "no...

    CTR vs. 182

I remember Dave182 saying that so I turned the ESP off a few times to test it out but couldnt honestly feel the difference. That was on dual carriageway though, whether it would be a different story on wet or uneven roads I couldnt say. I guess on a dead straight smooth piece of dual carriageway...

    CTR vs. 182

I drove my friends CTR and the kick isnt as noticeable as the 182s. He now has an S2k and I cant feel any kick what so ever in that, the power just builds up consistantly rather than coming in a surge. If you are driving on an empty dual carriageway with no points of reference you cannot feel...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

No just get a Caterham and some old hatchback for £500 with a years MOT. I only got the 182 because at that time in my life I could for various reason only have the one vehicle and needed performance and practicality in one. When the 182 is three years old it will go in favour of having two...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

The Caterham and VX have far more in common than a 182 and a Cup racer. They are both "second cars", both are two seater track orientated cars that are not the best in the world for comfort. The 182 is a road legal 5 seater shopping trolley that you can use as a reliable family car with all...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

I have done just this with a Superlight and the Turbo VX and you are spot on mate. The Caterham is on a different planet. The Caterham is the only vehicle with more than 2 wheels that I have ever felt I could fall in love with, the driving experience is sexual.

    sell for a VX yes/no!

I still say wait, save for a year and buy a Turbo. Trust me you will be disappointed with the straight line performance of the NA VX and wish you had been less impatient. Remember you are not gaining any power to weight ratio but are losing a lot of raw power. You have probably seen what a 20bhp...

    sell for a VX yes/no!

Turbo = swap. NA = dont bother. To be honest I didnt even find the turbo mind blowingly quick. The NA is only quicker than the Clio from 0 to 20, its still only 168 per tonne and 25 bhp down on a standard 172. I had that 2.2 engine in my Vectra though and it has a shed load more power and...

    Car too expensive to run

Yeah and they also forget that compared to some other European countries that have cheaper petrol we have far lower levels of income tax because the tax money comes in from petrol as well.

    Car too expensive to run

This reminds me of the old arguments where people said they couldnt afford Optimax over normal unleaded. If you look at the price increase over the last 12 months and work out how much extra it is costing you per week for your fuel it really is no big deal. Work out what a 10p per litre...

    new RS

17k is a lot for what is really just some cheap little French supermini thats bound to go wrong. Bear in mind you can get the VXR Astra for £17k online. LOL me buy a Clio RS for the same price? I think not!

    Milage on Insurance

I got a 10k limit on mine which in fairness wont be an issue. The thing is thats 10k with me driving it. What if I let my father drive it using the third party element of his comprehensive insurance. What about when the dealer has picked it up and delivered it to and from my house for repairs...

How hard is taking pics at night! 56K

Yes tripod plus timer as even your finger pressing the button can mess it up. Worse with digital cameras than it is with film.

    Black car owners

I had a black car and will never touch one again. After spending the best part of the day washing and polishing they look better than any other colour going. Wake up the next morning and they look absolutely terrible. Its nothing short of torture.

    Trophy Review

You have to remember that these journalists get to drive proper fast cars so the Trophy will seem pretty slow compared to what they have driven recently. Their viewpoint of it will be different to that of most people here for whom it is the quickest vehicle they have ever driven. On top of...

    Trophy Review

Yeah I had a sensor problem on my car and not many people here have had nothing go wrong. Mine broke down before it had even been delivered and not including that incident went into the dealers twice in the first few months after I had bought it for the same fault. Granted we get discounts...

Yeah mid twenties and earning 20k a year which is a lot in a sh1t hole like Bristol where most the jobs are in retail or admin earning 8 to 12k a year. These are educated people who have themselves been the victim of vandalism and kicked up a big enough fuss when it happened to them. People...

Another my car’s been keyed thread...

People at my work admit to doing over phone boxes and the odd car walking back from town and they are people who are earning fairly good money not chavs. Funnily enough they dont do it out of jealousy or because they dont like the attitude of owners. They do it because they think its funny of...
