It's pretty easy to get off once you know how. Just turn it a quarter of the way so the hole is facing the floor, use big flat head screwdriver to pop u shape clip off, turn wheel so other side is facing floor and do same
Garmin/TomTom much of a personal preference tbh. Iirc they're both offering lifetime maps on most models now, I guess as a response to the rise of Google maps.
