Colour change is common due to plastics as you say. Exhaust blow at that joint is also common, best way to fix it is to sleeve the cat. Knock will prob be suspension related, hard to diagnose online but have a look if it's a major concern.

As above, swapped mine for 197 calliper's in the end.
