You are correct about the mid section (post cat sensor or not) so would assume correct about rear section, I actually run a complete phase 2 system on my phase 1.
I think its only weak if much more power or rpm than it was designed for is used, mines on 72000 miles, gets used properly (I don't sidestep the clutch with 6000 revs on the rev counter) and its sweet.
Could only be the 2 door for me, I thought about buying one a few years ago, my brother beat me to it, and when I saw his fuel consumption I quickly changed my mind, phase 1 suits me best.
While not a 182 my first phase 1 came on lowered suspension and I couldn't live with the ride, even tried other lowered springs, my second on standard suspension afaik is much better.
I found the hardest bit was actually getting the belt on, didn't want to fit it while not having everthing all bolted in the correct place, so I ground a tiny bit of the alternator allowing it to slide a bit closer and allowing easy belt fitment.
Bought my first 105e in 1972, many more later and sold my last one in 2010, all modified of course.Had thoughts on buying a 100e but ive had enough rust to last me me out.
To me it made more sense to buy the proper tools and do it myself, didn't have to take the car anywhere and I can sell the tools on to recoup some of the cost. my previous cambelt experience, ford pinto, ford 16v engine and vag 8 and 16v was of no help.
I fitted the btb originally because I read on here it was fairly quiet, too loud for me so I fitted the k tec twin pass super quiet stealth system, very happy with the quietness of it.
ive fitted the k-tec stainless super quiet system, apparently not restrictive till about 220 bhp, so fine for na. very pleased with the sound, or lack of it. Previously had a btb which was too loud for me.
Well im a couple of months short of 60 and have the phase 1, if I didn't have it it would be a mk1 golf gti or a 205 gti, cars I have had in the past. They are my sort of car and would own them even if I had some money.
Latest of mine, body kit removed which I think is quite ugly, much prefer the purer lines of the non sport. The wheels are now not lost under the arch,s or half hidden by the sill covers. I do have another set of panels which I need to get sprayed the correct colour and then fit them.
When I first start my 172 phase 1,, I get 2 or 3 judders when I first move the steering wheel, then its fine until I start the next time, don't know if its connected but I also seem to be getting more torque steer than usual, suggestions please.
