i think your car has had a incorrect box fitted as stated above, the wire IS NOT there if the car is ran from the ABS ring :) you will see a small square plastic lug in the hole if it will take a speedo sdrive unit, IF NOT its defo wrong box ive seen 53 reg clios with this older type speedo input

The issues your describing sound like the rear mount is on its way out, the exhaust will be slapping on the sub frame, and the gearbox moving in and out with the bush being worn! I would replace this even if you just a get a Original one, but the Polly one is best :) Speedo could be the wires...
