damn the posting at the same time! - clean, just read your post, answers my "grunt" question (excuse the expression :) )! do you reckon that checking the alignment / camber / tracking will improve matters? (sorry if these are actually the same thing!)
they arent that thick, 6.5" - talkied to a couple of VW boys today (a mk 1 golf, mk 3 po(l)o!) and both said that they didnt notice any of this, in fact perhaps a slight increase (not sure if i believe that tho!). Is this coz the VW lumps have more low-end grunt, as ive found the E-type renault...
got a set of boss 15" XTRs yesterday with falken 195/45 rubber, and although i knew the acceleratioon would be a bit worse i wasnt prepared for this! altough you 172 / willy boys are obviously a lot faster in comparison, on my standard rims i could feel the pull on the RT, espec. around the 3K+...
steve - i had this shortly after buying mine - they have a reserve tank so when you are on empty on the indicator you still have your reserve tank left. My handbok says that the warning light will flash when it is using your reserve, and when it is constantly lit you are almost bone dry!

i chose my rims finally - ordered a set of boss XTRs 15" with falken 105/45 rubber - see what you think:

what i like is that the spokes go right to the edge, giving the impression of a bigger wheel!
£450, all in (balanceing, fitting...

jesus hon you given up sleeping or sommit?! ;) i had to be up4 work at 5:30,how bads that?! ive heard peopel say AVO are good springs - where you gonna get them done?
a quick question - peopel are saying that the practicialities and effects of putting 16s on vary from car to car, but suruely all RT ph.1s would act the same, either rub or not rub?
i really wanna stretch to 16s on mine but dont wanna shell out only to find that they rub and/or are impractical...

good news! they rang at about 11am, my car was all done and dusted!
asked for the old tensioner and belt to see, they were fine about it and showed me, even talked about their suppliers and said they couldnt get a renault one in until tomorrow and since i had said that i neded it urgently...

what a joke, i cant believe perople can be that up themselves! why cant people do what bob said earlier and let the customers be right - surely we should all know our own cars?they seem to trhink that they have in-depth knowledge of every car going!!!

nick - great explanation, really cleared it up for me!
but the topic raised, although aimed at 172 owners, has worried me a bit! I suppose if the 172 ECU cant cope then the 1.4 Phase 1 ECU is definitely not gonna cope?!
Also, how can you tell when a car is runnign too lean (in driving terms?)
im pretty sure that one click is -35mm, i remember reading it here on a post only a few days ago! search around, cant rememebr the topic name but you should be able to find it!
i unfortunately did not sighn any job sheet - again somethign which i know know to do for the future!
its interesting to note the adjuster that woujld come with the renault kit - i didnt think they could ask for any extra labour charges, but if they do then am i right in saying to them that it...

cheers rick, i see what youre saying now - nice rims by the way!
i dont know if i will get to elite tomorrow now, my car is in the hands of some cretins at a garage (see my other post re the cambelt!) and may not get it back in time!
aaron, just to fuel the debate - rang 2 renault garages tonight to try and get a cambelt tensioner - the first couldnt even put me through to parts: get this, i was put through to main desk, then to service, then to main desk, then to service, and finally the woman forwarded me to herself...
BOB - yeah, i see what youre saying, but i did believe that they were a reputable garage and the cost from a renault garage was astronomical (~£250). i guess i have learnt the hard way! i will ask to see the part tomorrow, but if they are gonna charge me extra labour charges theres nothing i can...
