maybe because your higher up the gears u need more fuel to create power so the first inch isnt doing anything simply because there isnt enough power being made by the engine at that point to actually pull? if that makes sense?

how do u know its the battery? if your alarm keeps going off open all doors, bonnet boot etc. might be a dodgy trigger. if anywhere is wet (engine trigger normally) pull the cable off the back of it then try turnin it off
my dads selling a mint mk1 172 in black. no rattles. only about 30k on it! its immaculate! and he knows how to look after his cars so u wouldnt need to worry. he now has a z3m. had a modded scooby before hand and built his own kit car etc. so it wont be a poorly looked after car.
