you should do this for a bit of a joke:
ring up a couple of small IT firms that do this sort of thing, get them in and explain what you're planning to do, say you will need a server than can run x y & z
get them to send you a written quote of the hardware they would propose
then you can...
only downside to raid is if you can afford it or not I guess. go for it if the boss will sign the cheque
'in very basic terms'
the guy is just trying to build a pretty basic server for a handful of people, and is getting a torrent of irrelevant info!!
RAID is a redundancy 'feature' if you like.
you have multiple hard disks in your server that can be configured so if 1 drive fails it wont kill your server as you can replace it whilst working off the other drives! It works by spreading your data over multiple drives so if 1 fails you can get...
you dont need to map a USB external disk as a network drive it will just get it's own letter.
If you mean you are putting your company data on 1 external disk and sharing that - why not share internal storage folders? It'll be quicker for users.
it depends on how far back the boss wants his...
Well everyone has to start somewhere.
I would certainly look at going with something like a Dell so you get a warranty etc and if something major does go crazy, then you can call them in.
There is a lot of irrelevant info in this thread so I looked at your requirements again - file/print &...
Apparently netflix via Windows Media Centre is only available to the yanks.
and trying it through XBMC didn't work either.
I think I'll just stick to how I used to get hold of shows and upgrade my storage ;)
This is ace. I've got xbmc running. Added the liveonlinefooty add on to watch sky sports news, whilst downloading the latest episode of house to my nas which im now watching
next step get my netflix trial started... :D
Yup Scan seem a lot more efficient although I did specifically order parts in stock.
I very nearly emailed my work dabs account manager who is the best account manager in the world but it would have beena personal query and I knew the answer would be you'll have to wait so f**k em lol!
Oska...
VNC et al...
I'm building a HTPC tomorrow and I want to control it with my ipad via VNC (or similar) what are the best clients to use (dont mind paying)
The PC will be Win7 and mainly on Windows Media Centre, or maybe XBMC if that makes any difference.
can you get wake on lan via iPad VNC -...
ahhhhhh dabs had put my order back another day so i cancelled it before work this morning.
decided to go on scan and pick in stock parts and it's already been picked about to be despatched!!
got a mobo/processor combo with no fan so i think it's basically a netbook in a small case lol.
still...
Yea I spotted that, was searching for some laptop ram in work and it brought up results for Zotac mini pc's which I think is exactly what I want, certainly not bad for £170 coz I've got the required RAM and HDD handy already.
I've also got a USB remote already and ordered a USB TV card, this is...
looking into this apparently if i go this route, the amd chip can do gfx better... the mobo in this selection has cpu/gfx bolted onto the mobo, which seems to work out cheaper
debating if I should add another £60 to upgrade to a SSD- dont need masses of storage as i'll be streaming...
I was thinking of something like this
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-p8h61-i-intel-h61-s-1155-ddr3-sata-ii-3gb-s-pcie-20-%28x16%29-graphics-on-board-mini-itx
Reckon I might build myself a wee HTPC and I think I've got it ok but I'll post a spec up later and check.
The only bit I'm not sure about is a motherboard - is there any particularly special ones I should be on the look out for?
Also, what is the best way to keep it quiet and cool - 2 case...
Someone on facebook put a picture up pointing out that under this new act they want you can get 5 years in prison but the guy who actually killed Michael Jackson (and subsequently all his future music) only got 4 years lol
I guess after the blackout the prosecutors are going round to see if they can get anyone to comply to some threatening letters maybe to look like they have a point as the blackout was well received
I've been on sky for a few years, it's gone down once and when I called they couldn't work out there was a problem in my whole area, so they decided it must be my router
they the decided to send me a new router which locked out my current one via MAC address... so when the outage was fixed my...
I was on a rush server the other night on that map where it goes under a motorway kind of thing... the attack spawn was on top of the hill and the objectives were down the bottom so i just camped my tank at a good spot...
a funny thing kept happening where 3 lads were getting in a little...
The last few games I've had I end up in a tank and not dying for the rest of the game :rasp: doesn't tell me the k/d ratio for tanks on bf3stats though :(
I'll post one of my Regens later, the coaches rate him highly but I'm not sure why... seems to be getting a lot of player of the months in League 1 though.
