No. Only makes the noise when the car is in motion. It stops when the car stops.

It does it when the wheels are turning, even in neutral.

Yep. I'm now weighing up options on whether to sort it, or sell it. Which will be a massive shame as it's a great car and I absolutely love it. But the bill for the gearbox might be more than I can swallow financially.
