its rather loud in the golf as well ! annoyin. Golf diesel is not bad but compare to BMW is not so refine either. Go drive both then u will know wut u want ... drive ur usual style
i think the two cars power delivery is completely opposite each other..... it really depends on wut u want jeff........ Golf is pretty much a straight line from 1900rpm to 3500 or so with max torque. While 172 is more linear the higher u go the more u get.
i think they can squeeze 180hp i think reachin 200 requires a k04 turbo (not too sure) in a petrol pushin from 150 to 200 requires a chip n exhaust..... but 235 require a bigger turbo. ahha imagine 298lb/ft scrambling in the wet yipee:P lots of traction control comin in.... Golf traction...
some jap cars are nice :P A mate own a R34 GTR with some mod I think he is wackin out 600 hp or somethin .... another one got a older shape CTR n he his engine is done up by Spoon (with spoon parts) n now hes got a Garret T4 turbo on it ... nuts absolutely nuts revs up to 11000rpm
thats true i heard some UK 2.0 got GTI badge...... for some reason there was one period where 2.0 golf was stated as Gti in the UK (from some magazine could be wrong)
VW doesnt do a lot of high power tuning to their engines. So what it say is what you get . Oh yeh if u ever run against some...

Standard form 172 is gonna be faster anyday. A 150Tdi is about the same as a petrol Gti probably coz of the rev limiter n so forth. It will feel heaps quicker htan the petrol GTi coz of the torque.
I think tunability. Turbo of coz have hte advantage but...

S3 luxury hatch really. Plenty fast for everyday use. Does run out of breath though. 2002 or 2003 version has a bit more power. Literally no lags :P. Bloody great recaros though! n bloody GREAT price tag too ahha.

hey finally somethin i m good at. i have driven or own all of the current Mk4 golf except the 150tdi diesel.
I had a V6 golf its just smooth n refine thats all not fun even with 4 motion gets into understeer pretty early for 4wd... 1.8T Gti as standard is very weedy against 172. 172 will eat...
