yeah get a mk1 mate. The money saved over a cup can pay for insurance. Remember that a mk1 is geared different and lighter (bit) compared to a mk2 and is virually a dead heat with a Cup.
Few examples to be getting on with:

My suggestions trying are:
Clio 1.5 DCi80 (renault offered me a straight swap for my 53 cup against an 04 DCi)
Golf 1.8T 150 or TDi
Astra 1.8 SXi
Focus zetec 1.8
I perfer a panel filter. Imo an i/k is a waste of time unless you use a massive air feed from the front of the car.
Plus an I/k is a mod and a panel filter is just a better quality item. Like using better tyres or oil. Plus one is £40 and the other is over £200 + whatever they add to youre...
JONGSR4 had a blat with a modded mk1 in the Lancer Evo 2 and although the Vee lost it put up more of a fight than a 172 Cup (which he now has)would.
Remember the Cup was only slighty quicker around one tight circuit than the mk1 V6.
Cant imagine youd stand as much chance against a mk2 though.:)
My mate has the same Audi but its a 1.9TDi 130 with the RS4 style wheels. Same colour though. Is yours the facelift model with the new dash?
My dad also has an A3 1.8T with the tiptronic box.
Funny that the 1.6 and the Diesel dont have front fogs but the 1.8T does.
