Re: E36 v2 Release bearing needs to be new, the 95% of E30 ones are 23mm I think so 7mm too short. Need to be 30mm. The bolts are fine if used with locktite and correct torque. You could replace them, depends how much money you want to spend I guess. Make sure the flywheel comes with the...

Re: E36 v2 Yeah, I weighed this one the other day and its only a shade over 7kg. There are two versions of the E30 flywheel, the early version does not have the lip on the back, and clears without machining or the spacer - people know this and sell them for more though! Later one and spacer...

Re: E36 v2 Will keep this updated with how I get on with release bearing. They came on E21 323i, Pre 92 E30 323i and a number of others. Febi and various other parts suppliers have the right one, its just finding the right one in stock at the moment. The stock DMF has a steel spacer on the back...

Re: E36 v2 Two possible ways of doing it, just get an M20 (E30) starter which bolts right up, £20-30 on eBay, or get a broken M20 one and swap the cog onto the E36 starter. Both options work :)

Re: E36 v2 E21 323i is the correct one. Its 30mm in length. Its a rip off from BMW.. But I've found a supplier for them cheaper, decent brand FEBI. Waiting back from them so I'll let you know if you want.

Re: E36 v2 It was FAG too. I think its a manufacturing fault with the inner race splitting in half, especially with the other side being fine. Going to try and change it in situ so I don't have to get the tracking redone so soon! I've just got hold of an M20 flywheel (E30 325i) solid...

Re: E36 v2 So remember new bearings were fitted to the trailing arms when the subframe was done? Had a bit of a noise from the rear N/S, although there was no play in the wheel. Started clicking on rotation, thought it was the CV on the output shaft. Removed the shaft to find...

Re: E36 v2 Probably why they weigh so damn much too! So another parcel arrived a couple of days ago.. Deja-vu! The 'new' radiator from a couple of months ago started leaking a short while ago. Seems there must be a crack where the core joins the side tank.. It was randomly spraying...

Re: E36 v2 Just a matter of jumping in and doing it, best way to learn. As long as you follow a manual (clearances/torques) for the specific engine you cant go far wrong. Taking apart and putting together is the same for any engine really - All the information is out there on the web, its just...

Re: E36 v2 I cut it open again today, it was a bit too 'raw' on WOT. I've added some wadding and closed it back up, much better now. Swapped the tips over from the other exhaust too. Will get a couple of clips over the next few days!

Re: E36 v2 Had a couple of hours free today so thought I'd look at the exhaust. The one that the car came with was always a bit boomy - literally louder inside the car than outside. Not that it bothered me how it sounded outside, just wanted rid of the 'boom' from inside. A common mod is to gut...

The daily driver... E36 328i Sport

My OBC shows 27-29mpg. When I work it out of actual miles to litres its 30mpg. Technology back then was sh*t lol.

Yeah its the ///M parts he charges the premium for really. Yup A49 past Oulton Park and all the way down. Its just a generic map with raised limiter and better fuelling for the M50 tbh, it did make a big difference mid and high range. AFRs were spot on when RR'd too. See what the new engine...

The daily driver... E36 328i Sport

Lol - who knows then. I know my consumption is down slightly due to the nikasil bore wear anyway, but you must have a special one - most people I know with them never break 330-340 mixed driving. I do have the inlet and a different map too mind. Yeh plenty of times, not that close, about...

I wouldn't worry, I just replied to his other thread with the same :clown: Usually work from full until the light comes on, so 52L. Does me for about 300-320mi, on a 200k engine. Works out approx 30mpg. I'm on the 3.15 diff though, so RPMs are higher.

    My E36 328i Sport

I have some Z3 plates on mine and they still aren't really sufficient for heavy track day use IMO. Without them the top mount area would be knackered by now mind! Going to come up with something to weld in to place with more surface area this year.

Re: E36 v2 Bottom end stripped to a bare casing - block is actually lighter than the head, can pick it up with one hand :clown: Dropped off the head and block at the machine shop for refacing and honing, probably have them back next week. Now to collect the rest of the bits.

Re: E36 v2 Yeah, I've just always had to work with what was available at the time. I did the E30 in a unit but it was hassle having to drive there just to work on it, then you'd end up forgetting something, etc. My parents were against the idea at first (2008!) and needless to say soon came...

Re: E36 v2 I saw your thread on E36coupe the other day ;) Good job to do, they go brittle as f*ck really as you found out! I've only had the driveway... although the fun starts when the snow comes! The garage was a complete mess (one of those that are a waste of time and a car wont fit in...

Re: E36 v2 Slightly different setup on the S50/S52 engines, more parts required and various other bits, sometimes bits need machining etc, so no can do lol! Had a bit of time before so stripped the rest of the head down ready for machining. Didn't take all that long.. :clown: Started with...

Re: E36 v2 Mine originally just felt 'flat', and you couldn't hear the changeover between 3-4k in the engine note. Now its working fine if I slowly build the revs up to 3k when driving you hear the engine note change as its climbing - might not be the same for them all. Fuel economy was down...

Re: E36 v2 Its pretty easy to remove, timing tools required though. I sold my F4R timing tools a while back and bought some BMW ones instead which have been used quite a bit. Re: E36 v2 M52B28, same as whats in there now. Although, a steel lined block, not Nikasil. Unfortunately the amount of hassle the turbo conversions are (especially on RHD) it just does not interest me. If the exhaust manifold was on the other side it would make sense, but not with how it is...
