Mini DisplayPort to HDMI should work fine, if you've got a new MBP then audio should work aswell. Lots available on eBay, i got the cablesson one i think.

Sounds like the synaptics touchpad software thats the problem, take it you've restarted it? If you have then try downloading this: http://drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_Signed_default.exe That should re-install the driver giving you the latest version aswell...
