Personally wouldn't bother.
Stick the £400 in savings instead in case anything goes wrong, doubtful you'll need £400 worth of work unless the car's had a hard life.

I'd get the iTouch and just a decent phone, that would be less than half the total cost.
Insurance, petrol, and tyres are more expensive on the CTR.
CTR is cheaper to service.
I've owned both a 172 and CTR and given the choice of either again I'd probably take the CTR if money wasn't the concern.

Just get a decent cold air filter, will sound much nicer with induction noise than with an after market exhaust.
There's loads of lowering springs available, not sure what's best on your model though.

Not a great car, but I'm sure it was May that said something like "it's easy to make a great car, you just chuck a load of money at it and charge a ridiculous amount".

I would have to get my ass down there to do it, and I can't be bothered with all that, plus it would just be cheaper to buy this software and then install VNC or the like for future.

I have no idea what's installed on the box I am wanting to connect to, but am told LapLink Gold is what I need to connect to it, tried a few alternatives without any success, I assume there is some sort of server protocol for this...
