    Sound bars ?

I've got loads of Sonos kit, but the fact that it doesn't support anything other than AC3 is a pain, I had to lobby hard to get Plex to support a mode which allowed transcoding of DTS server side and when I switched the Emby they also added a feature after I requested it to allow this to happen.

    3D printing people

Cheers guys, i’ll Have to have a think. There’s an updated caddy for the 3b in the comments, would cost a fortune to get printed professionally, way more than I’m willing to pay! I’m amazed that there is little in the way of already available pi rack mounts available.

Hey, I’m after a rack mount system for some raspberry pi’s, I found this on thingiverse..... ...only issue, I don’t have a 3D printer. Anybody out there with one who roughly how much it would cost to print me a set? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1606631 Cheers.

CCTV what have you got? Advice needed

Just fitted a UniFi G3 Pro to the front of the house, very impressed. (As I always am with Ubiquiti equipment). Proper solid unit. Wife wants one on the back of the house now, I need to get another POE switch now!

Help With House Move/No WIFI BT Hub etc etc.

    Recommend me a new TV

I bought a smaller member of the family of that LG one (49SK8100) for the bedroom and I really like it. I don’t like the magic remote (like a wii remote) but if you click the the arrows on the remote it functions as a normal remote would, just wish I could turn off the cursor permanently!

    Selling your bt smart hub

It’s bizarre, why on earth anybody would buy a crappy router that is given away with internet service.... But hey, don’t knock it if somebody is that stupid to buy it!

    Apple live event today

Years ago I heard people questioning whether there would be an ARM based Mac, I dismissed it at the time (I work on embedded systems with ARM processors) because we weren't yet at the point at which the chips were powerful enough to take on intel, but since Apple are designing their own chips...

Moving to a Mac/macbook.. anyone made the jump?

It's mainly because of the design aesthetics, making the laptops thinner means that things like RAM have to be soldered directly onto the board, there just isn't the space inside for stacked boards with connectors, I've also never had a Mac fail with a memory issue. On my 2016 TB MBP the...

    Apple live event today

Tempted to upgrade to a XS MAX, I'm one of those odd folks that doesn't use much storage. Just checked my 128GB 7+ and in the 2 years of ownership I've used 32 GB, so I really don't use much storage. (Got 256GB TB MBP and have only used 128 GB of that in 2 years) I have unlimited data (sim...

Moving to a Mac/macbook.. anyone made the jump?

I've owned quite a few Macs and haven't had a "PC" since early in the 2000's. I had desktop Macs and then switched to laptops and had a G4 Powerbook which was my daily driver for about 6 years and I only upgraded it as the battery had gone and it was finally starting to feel its age (Intel...

Buy a better doorbell, sounds like an awful lot harder task to hack than it's going to be to get one with a decent range.

The actual sensor I used BME280 could actually be connected up to the i2c interface on a raspberry pi just as easily, the app would then be even simpler as it wouldn't need a MQTT broker, it would just read the sensor directly and store the results in the database, however, that wasn't the point...

Boards arrived and soldered, code modified to use STM32F722RE instead of STM32F402RE and bingo. Worlds most pointless project, but I learned how to use Kicad and somebody pointed out how to make pads that sink into planes (the chip bottom left as you look at it is a linear regulator and lets...

Trying to ping a device, help appreciated

I can't actually work out what you're doing or wanting to do from that description, why have things got the same address (are you talking externally because of NAT?). is the embedded device on a VPN SIM or something? (We have customers who use static IP SIM cards, some use a real IP and others...

    Electronics

I found the original thread where that top one came from and the guy said he had the gerbers for it if you asked him, you need the Gerber files (and drill files) to get it made, you can't do it from the picture. I just modified my design, fixed an issue (those eagle eyed will see the voltage...

They need to supply the Gerber otherwise you'll need the original design file and a copy of the software they used to do the layout to generate the gerbers yourself. That second layout is appalling! lol. No idea of the sort of voltages involved here, but those traces don't look very big at all...

top image is the circuit diagram which gives you the types and values of the various components. The bottom image is a composite picture of the top and bottom PCB layers. You need Gerber files to produce a PCB, you'd upload them to JLCPCB and check it looks correct and get them to make them.

I started messing about with PIC16C84 (the original version before they changed the flash technology and it became the 16F84), built my own programming circuit for it connected to the parallel port of my PC.

Designing circuits is pretty easy (if your brain is wired that way), laying out a PCB can be fairly tricky depending on the number of layers you use and how compact you want to make it. I'm old enough that neither electronics or computing was taught at school! ?

    Electronics

Not a lot. It was mainly a test of the design software (KiKad) and the board manufacturer, I wanted an excuse to use the teeny tiny ARM SWD connector, it's common to find dev boards with the standard size SWD connector, but not the tiny one. I just wanted to have a play with the ESP-12F module...

Anybody else into electronics? I've been involved in electronics for 20+ years commercially, designing embedded systems. Got bored at home the other week so decided to see how far open source design software had come, so knocked up a small design (wifi and i2c breakout) and had the PCB's made...
