What have you done to your car today ???

Fitted a new alternator and aux belt kit... not in a hurry to do that again!

What else to do whilst engine out?

Probably a bit obvious, but check the sump for the leaks. It will be so much easier replacing the gasket with the engine out of the car.

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

Struggling to get hold of four AD08R's in 205/45/16 at a reasonable price. I've tried the guy on Facebook but he's not sure when he'll have any (he did quote me £340 for 4 though, which is a bargain). Anywhere that does have them in stock Is charging £25-30 more than what I saw them for a few...

    Cleaning 182 Headlight casing.

Depends what equipment you have already. If you have a DA/polisher (or can borrow one) there's no need to buy a kit, you just need some polish and wet and dry in various grades (I normally go for 800 > 1500 > 3000).

    Best fast Road Brake setup

I've just fitted DS2500 pads and Brembo HC discs at the front and then standard discs and pads at the rear, with HEL braided lines and refurbished calipers all-round. I've yet to put it to test properly, but it was what George (aka Road Track Race Parts) recommended for fast road use with the...

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

That's good to know - if he doesn't come back through Facebook, I'll drop you a PM. Thanks again. One of the last few bits I need before I can get my Trophy MOT'd and first track day booked ('only' been off the road a year and a half!!!).

Great stuff, thanks for the feedback mate. Just waiting for him to accept my friend request on Facebook and I'll get them ordered

Track Tyres - Feedback and Recommendations

Nice one, thanks @JackD @imprezaworks @JamesBryan Cheapest I could find them was around £400, so that's a decent saving. Did you order through him @imprezaworks? If so, was all ok? No issues with service, delivery, etc.?

Anybody know where's cheapest for AD08R's in 205/45/16?

    Possible oil leak in gearbox

Yep, it's normal, in fact I've yet to see one that doesn't leak there! Seem to remember there's a kit to replace the seal without removing th gearbox? Not sure how well it works though...

Serpentine / Aux Belt Tensioning Tool

Ok point taken... jubilee clip ordered ;) Thanks all for your help and suggestions. I have a day off on Monday so I'm looking to get it done then - I'll let you know how it goes...

    Does mileage matter

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage, buy on condition and service history.

Serpentine / Aux Belt Tensioning Tool

I'd love the Snap-on tool, mate. When it's a tool I'll use regularly, I buy SO every time. With something like this though, it's hard to justify the outlay when I'll probably only use it a handful of times. There's only one on eBay now, but it's still over £100. Hmm... So I've heard! I'll...

    Oil Leak :(

Good to hear, but I'm sure you'll agree they're a rare find! If it's a car you plan to hold onto and your budget allows, for the peace of mind, it's well worth having one rebuilt IMO (especially if you've got to pay to have it removed and refitted).

    Oil Leak :(

Good luck finding a second hand JC5 with no leaks!

Serpentine / Aux Belt Tensioning Tool

Can anyone recommend one? I know people have successfully used jubilee clips and home-made tools, but I would rather buy a proper tool if possible (sure it will get some use over the years). A few people have recommended the Snap-on tool and have mentioned it costing around £30, but the only...

Best alternative to 182 cup pack oem springs

Eibach's are a popular choice. You have two options if you decide to go down that route. There's the Prolines, as mentioned above, that are very similar to the OEM springs and maintain the standard ride height. Then there's the Sportlines, which are a bit firmer than standard (yet offer a more...

    Tie rod boot, changeable??

Beaten to it on the ECP suggestion!

    Tie rod boot, changeable??

To be fair, mine were a generic boot and did need cutting down slightly, but it would still be a better option than a second hand set in my opinion. Try your nearest Euro Car Parts, I'm sure they'll have something in stock that is good quality and a reasonable price
  21. Tommo.

    Tie rod boot, changeable??

You don't want to replace the boot with one off a car in a breakers yard mate. It's a false economy and just not worth the hassle. I had to change one on my DCI at the last MOT and paid £15 for a pair from a local motor factors. £30 seems a little high...

Not Normal Dans R26 Megane F1

Would you mind PM'ing details of the paint shop your using please Dan? Want to get a few bits done on my Trophy, but it's difficult finding someone you can trust! Was following you through Melbourne a few weeks back on a sat morning (you were in the 172).

    Track Rod Ends

Lemforder are good (they are the OEM I believe?) and available at ECP. It's good practice to change both, but not essential.

    clicky steering

I had these exact symptoms and it turned out the bolts holding the steering rack to the subframe were loose. I would put money on this being your problem. It's easy enough to check yourself. At the back of the subframe by the ARB, there are 4 x 16mm bolts holding the 'rack to the subframe. You...

If your car was off the road, what would you do to it?

Thanks mate. I'm sure it won't look as good with time, I still intend to use it as intended, but at least it should be mechanically sound (from a suspension/brakes PoV) for a good few years now.

If your car was off the road, what would you do to it?

The inner tie rods have been zinc plated the same as all nuts and bolts. As for the track rod ends and ball joints, they have been coated in Dynax-UC, it's a clear film, a bit like a lacquer, but is designed to prevent rust. I've heard good things, so I'm hopeful it keeps them rust-free!

If your car was off the road, what would you do to it?

I would echo what @Arran_ said and go with a suspension refresh. I took my Trophy off the road early last year to do the same. I hadn't got any real experience working on cars, but was keen to give it a go and learn. Here's how it's looking now (any excuse to post a few photos :tongueout:) ...

What size torx bits for stub axle please

I have to agree with Daniel - common sense, surely? Anyway, it looks like a T45 to me, but as has already been said, get yourself a set of Torx bits from Halfords and it'll save you the hassle of buying individual sockets, only to find they're the wrong ones.
