I had this issue. Are you using VLC media player? In VLC on one of the options along the top (I think audio) there's an option to select output sound through HDMI. Having said that, dunno what would have happened to get it to work when you plugged it back in again....

To be fair on the R27, it did basically have all the desirable options that you really should have been speccing (at the time) if you were thinking of buying a 197 for a cheaper price than what the options would have cost. Cup pack, recaros, tinted windows and some rather dubious stickers made...

Strange indeed, I'm finding intermediate level a bit odd too. (I gave up on professional as I was too rubbish) The intermediate level seems to flirt between being about "right" on some tracks and then will suddenly turn ridiculously easy on another track. Not sure what's going on....
