Re: What have you ordered?
SRP and then Collinite after if you have both mate. SRP won't offer any lasting protection whereas Collinite is very good for that and will also add a bit of extra gloss.
Re: What have you ordered?
Odd that DJ would release a sponge without performing rigorous tests. They've tried to reinvent the wheel and failed by the looks of it.
This week I have mostly bought PB Black Hole and GTechniq P1, and some accessories including bargain aluminium water spray bottles.
Lol, yeah I guess it's a bit different if you do it all the time to other people's cars! Also, the average non-enthusiast who jut wants a shiny car must love an easy product like that.
With a sealant that durable, don't you get a bit gutted that you can't try any other products for that long!
Part of the fun for me is stripping back and giving the paint an overhaul because the existing protection has worn off.
I was amazed when I read a write-up that included a detail where an iron-removing chemical was used (I forget the name). Iron particles streaming off the car!
Doesn't work that way mate. You apply lots of layers of wax over a day or two:
Apply thin layer, let it cure for a bit, remove.
Leave for a bit.
Apply another thin layer... etc.
It's like a candle because it is wax. The cold could also play a part as it needs to be going on a relatively warm...
Glaze, Sealant and Wax can all be used in sequence is my understanding but you can survive without glaze if it's been polished and the sealant / wax can be fairly interchangeable. Sealant seems to offer less gloss, more flake, and is generally more durable (engineered product). Wax is glossier...
Absolutey this. I've started building my collection up again and I literally have listed what I need (shampoo, applcators, MF cloths, etc) and then popped over to DW and used the search function to read what people recommend.
Also, as said, what 99 people think is fantastic you might just not...
Had a box arrive today :) Lovely soft wheel brush, some plush Eurow towels and Black Hole glaze.
P1 on its way and I also ordered a few small aluminium spray bottles to replace my bigger bottles of APC and carpet cleaner to make some space in my new toolbag! The bug has bitten again and my...
Ooh, this is like a 'spec me' thread for detailing geeks! I've not got the knowledge or patience bur a couple guys will probably enjoy compiling a list for you.
Many a time I've just popped to Halfords to pick up an inferior product, just so I can potter around the car on that day instead of waiting a few days to get a better product to use.
It's all part of getting bitten by the bug.
So...
Menz PO203S or P1 followed by
PB Black Hole or CK Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze
then my Vics Concourse?
Or will I need a sealant after the glaze to provide better protection than the Vics?
Let us know the trick for the P1 Gally! :) I've PM'd the guy on DW for a discount...
Cheers boys.
JD - cars will be VW, Jag, Volvo, Kia, probably Ford and most likely a few French rattle cans.
I dot expect to necessarily achieve correction on all those by hand, but good to get an idea of what's around. Will have a look at Black Hole and Menz also.
Yep that's the one Todd.
JD's just being precious. One bucket / one leather will damage paintwork whereas EGP won't. It provides okay protection and is a good starting point but there are better, easier, longer lasting products available online which aren't a great deal more expensive. But, if...
Yeah I used SRP and EGP for a long time on my first Clio and always produced good results. Make sure you're applying a very thin layer of EGP otherwise it's a b**ch to remove... also leave a good hour at least between applying and removing.
I've been out of the detailing game since getting fed up in the summer and flogging my polishing kit. However, I want to build my supplies up for the summer when I'll do a bit of casual car cleaning / detailing for nearest and dearest...
So, has the hand polishing game moved on from SRP yet...
Was only joking sweet cheeks, I've missed your amazing ability to create multi-page threads from a seemingly innocuous post. It's your massive post count that draws waives and strays in.
