A light(ish) car with wide(ish) tyres is never going to be any good on snow. This applies to all makes and all models; even 4wd isnt brilliant in snow with wide tyres. If you want a great snow car, find a Citroen 2CV with its bicycle type tyres.
Pads harden up with use and need more heat to get them working. All 3 172s I test drove had poor brakes until youd got lots of heat in them. Try other pads, Green stuff, Red stuff, Pageds or something.
Can I fit Cup suspension bits to my 182 while retaining the standard springs and dampers? I dont want a harder ride on our dreadful local roads, but wonder if the Cup geometry would be an improvement.
Had mine 2 months and 3000 miles and no absolutely no problems. Wanted a car my wife would drive on occasion (she found my old Alfa intimidating). Problem is she loves it and wants to drive it all the time.
Main dealers for most makes are crap in my experience.
At 750 miles, just make sure the oils fully warm (takes longer than you think, 10 miles at least) and drive it as you want to. Flogging it when cold is what does damage.
If you can go for a 182, have a try of one without Cup suspension. I drove a couple of 172s and my impression is the 182 is firmer. Youd prefer a Cup on track days Im sure, but dont let them tell you the standard 182 is soft, its as firm as I could want on an everyday car and wonderful to drive...
In Saturday’s Guardian the 182 came fifth in their list of top 10 performance cars, written by Steve Sutcliffe of the Autocar. He describes it as an absolute riot to drive. So the press really is now acknowledging what a great car it is.
Ive had the back come round a couple of times when the cars been under power through a slippery corner. It surprised me because with a front drive car under power this shouldnt happen. My guess is that the traction control cut in. You expect lifting off to bring the back out, and traction...
Engine oil takes much longer than the water to reach full temp. Ive revved my 182 some time after the water temp was OK, and the rev limiter seemed to cut in early. A bit later I had full revs. Maybe this is Renaults way of protecting the engine.
Had my 182 a couple of weeks now, no problems, no rattles, just fun. Its a 13 grand car with lots of equipment and performance, you can expect niggles to sort, but most of us are OK. Ran a 1.4 early Clio for 7 years with very few problems. Theres always the odd rogue with any make, just hope you...
I collected my new 182 yesterday, the service light came on 3 times, twice after driving through deep puddles. Each time I switched the ignition off and on again and the service light went out and stayed out. The handbook suggests to check the oil, mines OK. It hasnt come on today.
Overall its...
As well as stiffer springs and dampers, Cup 182s have changed steering geometry and wider tracks, 20mm at the front, 10mm at the back. What changes have they made from standard suspension to achieve this? Any ideas?
You’d expect just fitting firmer springs to a standard 182 wouldn’t give the...
My new Clio 182 (Aztec Blue, no Cup bits) is due to arrive in the next few days (I’m told). The dealer is happy to give me a drive before I accept it; any suggestions as to what I should be looking and listening for in a 20-30 minute drive?

go direct to HI-SPEC, get the "billet 4" kit
I went to HI-SPEC for my Alfa brakes, waited 7 months despite constant calls. Drilled discs immediately warped, were re-faced and are now warping again.
Had to adjust front/rear balance...
I raced a scooby last night and the problem seamed to be cured after the race, We both pulled over after to admire the cars in Dudley Birmingham. Nice race neck and neck, he couldnt believe the performance!:o
How many miles you done? Interesting way to run it in.
Ive an Artic Blue 182 on order, and Im surprised how many of you run Cup Models. At 3mm lower it hardly looks better, and even on my country lanes you cant drive fast enough to benefit from that little extra - round every blind corner (thats most of them) is a fuel tanker or girls on horses or...
Im finally changing my 25 yr old Sud Sprint, and was offered a UK 182, metallic paint (no cup bits, much too hard) by a car broker for 12,300. Went back to my dealer who came down from his first 13,700 to 12,995, said theyd have to pre-register but now wont, not that I care much. I wouldnt use a...
