Same happened to my old one! Must be fairly common. I swapped mine out and it was fine, but then it did it again to the new owner. Was months later though.
Actually, yes 1 thing I didn't like. Driving to work and having to drop down 3 gears just to be able to over take doris on her mobility scooter.
Don't get me wrong, I bloody miss my 172, more so than my 197, but not for commuting. I think I'd probably have kept them longer if I didn't have to...
I commuted in mine and whilst it seemed great at the time, it really isn't in hindsight. There's no way I'd even go back to a manual car for the commute, let alone a 172.
Pixel 2 XL is one of, if not still the best phone camera. But that doesn't help you as they aren't cheap. Cheap phones tend to not have the best cameras.
Welcome.
As a paid up member you'll get access to a big list of what to look for somewhere that @Knuckles wrote.
It gave the differences between the various 197 models and those vs a 200.
After owning a 197 myself I'd say get a later one with the same gearbox ratios as the 200, little better...
My uncle just bought the TME that was due through their auction.
Pictures looked appalling but it is mint. He owned one when they were new but has just bought one to store away (shame really)
This should be a great read. I'm thinking of doing something similar for the same reasons. Missus has always fancied it so going to look at a cheap 182. Not so sure my budget will be able to magically double though like yours :(
Look forward to reading.
Phone + Spotify Premium = Done.
Can download the ones you want to use offline. If battery life is a worry then get yourself a power bank the same size as the MP3 player you were going to purchase if you were going to carry around two devices anyway.
As everyone has said.
Tell him to tell the garage to f**k off and go to a specialist. The garage has no idea what they are talking about and clearly neither does he. They are taking him for all they can.
Get the car away from there and to the nearest specialist. They aren't more expensive...
Chances are if the aux belt has gone it's taken the cambelt with it, or at least it'll have skipped a few teeth so when you next run the car, it's going to eat the valves.
MK3 is a much more modern place to be. I thought at the time it was a better commuter, but in hindsight I actually think the 172 I had was better. Less changing through the gears, felt comfier, better on fuel.
