I was a long term fan of the iPhone, but iOS6 is a joke, it's an embarrassment. The formula should not be Take iOS5, remove some bits, make it a bit worse, label it iOS6, profit!
Prior to the beta seeds of iOS6 I'd have said there's nothing that would have taken me away from the...
Yes. Used to have our own mail server, but I migrated us to Google apps a few years ago.
I had to write a number of scripts to export our current mail and import it into Google, about 15 years worth of sent and received email from 5 or so accounts.
Google apps was free at the time, so we...
I remember doing my work experience at a computer games distributer in the early 90's.
Was awesome, they worked with Gonzo games and such like, there were some programmers working on the C64, ST & Amiga versions of "Brides of Dracula". I used to spend all day with them, they were a bunch of...
If its downloading old emails then it doesn't sound like you've been using pop anyway, pop removes emails from the server as it downloads them.
IMAP keeps the messages on the server but provides sync info, so if you read a message on your phone, then it shows as read on your PC. If you delete a...
I made the "step" last november (luckily I managed to get one from the first batch) and I have zero regrets. My N7 convinced me that Android had reached a point where it wasn't a joke, so I pulled the trigger. Roll on key lime pie.
Every time I use the wifes iPhone 4 I can't believe how small...
Using a forum in a browser makes me want to poke my eyes out with a stick. It's an awful experience!
Granted that in the early days Tapatalk crashed so much that it was 50/50 which was the worst experience, but it didn't take long to tip the balance in favour of the App and now it's just a...
Do what it says.
As far as I can remember, that message is reported by the drive itself to windows (smart). The drive is seeing an increasing amount of physical errors indicating that it's about to fail.
Yeah, just go into startup disk in mac os system preferences and select the bootcamp partition. Pretty sure you can do it inside bootcamp as well using the bootcamp utility.
If you're that tempted, why not ditch the display and get the iMac instead.
You can use the iMac as a thunderbolt display for the MBP but you will also be able to use it as a normal Mac as well.
Yeah, there isn't as much high quality software for Android as there is on iOS, but there is just as much junk on both platforms - it's actually a problem that both have when trying to find new software - you pretty much find stuff that's trending or because you're specifically searching for an...
I still wouldn't consider anything other than Macs for my "proper computing needs", I love unix and I happen to think that Apple still make awesome computers. (I ran my old powerbook into the ground, it was still my main home computer up until 2 years ago when it got replaced by a MBP).
They've...
While apple have been adding exciting new features to iOS (Passbook, Maps, umm, erm, umm, other stuff) google have breezed past them with Android - I thought I'd never say that and I thought Apple would remain at the top of their game and that I could only see myself owning iPhones in the long...
Actually, one of the things that always irritated me about tethering in iOS was that to turn it on you had to display all the connection details on the screen, I never understood the logic of sharing that information with anybody who can see your screen just to turn it on.
Its all about problem solving.
I wrote an app which lots of virgin TiVo users used to make the us iPad app work with the UK box, its quite cool when a couple of hours effort is used by people.
Yes, you can get video senders, they're functional but they're not brilliant. They run on the band band as wifi signals, so you can pick up all sorts of interference on them.
It kept me amused for a while and then I got bored of playing with it!
The airplay protocol was basically nothing more than a simple webserver which advertises services via bonjour. I just integrated mongoose, bonjour and vlc to make it work.
It's obviously progressed since then, keeping up...
