I just find mine understeers if you try push it on a round about. Mine did really well (considering) chucking it around a wet race circuit.

Just because they've been crashed doesn't automaticaly reflect on the handling. He sad a mk2 and a ford KA did the same thing wasn't just his car slipping about. I had to accidents in mine both had sod all to do with the 'handling'

Nope, The hard where is different in the early ones. Basicaly just a chip which they put in to allow the backwards compat but they removed it so they could continue selling PS2's. Sometimes it can be fun to go back and play old PS1/PS2 games in cases of extreme bordem.
