i'm sure this prime will fit if you don't mind manual focusing: http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-nikon-50mm-f1-8-d-af-lens/p12869
depends what you want really though as prime and telephoto and quite different types os lens, can go wrong for that price for the prime though.
I wouldnt bother with a d40 if you have £400 to spend,
i'd go for a second hand D50 over and d40 anytime which is less than £400 or i'd get a D80 for around £450.
Great shots Gregg, i always get bored thinking i have to somewhere further afield to take photos and i've never really taken any shots within walking distance, its a good idea.
just make sure the surface isnt dry before using it or your going to scratch your car.
someone said above to wash your car then dry it then use a quick detailer, i'd rather not dry the car and clay it then while using some sort of quick detailer aswell.
if i was going to upgrade i'd go for something more professional like the d300 or d300s now then would feel like more of an upgrade. I don't really know anything about canons so i'm not sure what to recommend.
some excellent shots, i do like the panoramic one the most it would look been turned into one of those little planet images if you've seen them before.
the 50mm might be nice to get some close up shots of detailed things and stuff not everyone will notice but make a nice touch to photos. also will be good at shooting without a flash for low light with a tripod. although i picked up my 50mm for £70 brand new at jessops a year ago.
