Correction the mk1 filter from K-Tec is what you are referring to - made by pipercross.
The mesh wasn't strong enough - I got quite lucky.
Although it took their car to blow up for them to take note ;)
the ITG alternative - top brand can't imagine there being any issues there
That is when mine started to smell of oil also..the plate kicks in at the right temp (allegedly)
Maybe even as an extra precaution as a daily it's overkill...unless you give it death every day lol
might be just a leaky cam seal where you're giving it some and it's weeping like a widow where its thinning out and burning off on the manifold you don't know mate. I'd get it looked at first
