u can open and close as they are vented. plus they look a lot better in the car, think they look bit pants without the lids

only had my melon one in for a week and the smell seems to be going already. also bought some lids and got to say, they look loads better!!

these dont come with lids either as it says near the bottom but still a good price

i got one of these and if you put a proper decent battery in they are amazing.
