Properly lower gearbox mount. OR undo your top engine mount, pull the engine forward a bit and do back up. When combined with a new lower gearbox mount, this solved my knocking.

He probably hasn't (but if he has, he's more than free to explain). I'm guessing he has seen someone have a bad experience and decided to hold onto it as if it's his own. Jumping on the bandwagon because he thinks he's cool.

I wouldn't go 2118s on a black 182. The anthracite 2118s on black doesn't look right IMO, only in silver.

I don't know if you're planning on telling your insurance or not, but please do. Now that we have the over with, nothing wrong with engine conversions. Doing it yourself could make it a project for yourself. Could be fun. Paying a company to do it will seem like you're pissing your money away...
