when using polish it goes when rubbing over it, then it will come back up if you leave it for abit.

wet sand it using 1500 + grit, it will be fine you wont ruin them, i was afriad of doing that too. glad i did it though, much better now.

ive had the same with my headlights, felt rough when rubbing it. What i did was get some soft sandpaper and gently sand it off, much better now than it was before.
