you could just get the ecu if you wanted but you would need to get it coded by someone to your key and uch.
or if you want to do it by yourself you need to get Ecu,UCH (a box behind the fuse's in the car) , key,key barrel and key reader(black thing around the barrel)
that should cost about...
if you think the board is totally fecked in the key the cheapest way to fix it would be
go to a scrap yard and get the board in the key and the board behind the light in the roof then just swap them over to your car and tadaaaa.
also you could just buy them on here from someone breaking a car:)
does the light work on the key when your press it?
does the certral locking button work next to the gearstick?
water used to leak on the central locking board from the aerial.
all you had to do was take the board off and clean it and it gave you a stronger signal or get it to work..

i've had the same problem before with the ECU.it wouldn't start and it wouldn't read laptop to a mechanic i took it to:(
i would go either do what mx1_champ says get ecu , uch , decoder ring and the key(door locks if you want)
or go get a ECU from a 2.0 and get someone to swap the immobilizer...
i will only be going maybe 40mm but would like the handling smooth.

no they dont do them for the 2.0 or the 3.0.they do them for all the other engines do.
strange thing is that they did them for the valvers but not the mk2:(
you can still get them from renault.Around here from renault they are €30 per handle so maybe about £20/25 in england.

no problems with the car at all. with the light on or not...sometimes i have to turn the car off the get rid of the light or else it will go away 10 secs after it comes on.
the car is BOG standard(no centrel locking, window winders,non sport headlights,no rev counter) so i dont think there is...
theres no way to get the cd changer to work.it ONLY works with the original renault radio.

if you are going downloading one then make sure you get the same version for your key.
eg if your windows 7 is windows 7 premuim 34bit then download the same version or else the key wont work.
also there are different keys for 32bit and 64bit
yes you do need to take off the top of the dash but it is really simple to do.it is held on by 5 screws
