as pointed out, the only thing that will ruin your speakers, (stock or otherwise), is too much power....either causing mechanical failure,(over excursion related faults), or electrical failure,(exceeding thermal handling so burning out the voice coil).....
heres a blatant 'copy & paste' that...
you will get some improvement in both quality and output....
a speaker simply reacts to the signal it recieves, if this signal is from a weak amplifier with a poor power supply,(namely your headunit), then sound quality will suffer as output is increased,(this is due to a poor power supply...
Re: Front Components Really Quiet
you say they are quiet, but just how quiet is quiet???
i would expect them to be able to play adequately before distortion becomes an issue,(higher rms ratings imply a stiffer suspension as does 90dB sensitivity), but because they are limited response wise...
could be a few things;
1, amplifier earth...
2, incorrect power supply cable...
3, incorrect gain setting on amp...
4, point of high resistance in the amps power circuit,(could be loose connection, faulty fuse, poor amp earth, poor battery to chassis grounding)...
without knowing system...
experiment with placement and aiming using Blu-Tack to temporarily mount the tweeters.....
i would start on the A pillars, say 3" above the dash, aiming wise try directly at each other first, then slightly open them out by aiming at say opposite door window then at opposite seat headrest etc...
if you desire deep hard punchy bass, go for a Vibe 'CBR EVO', if you would prefer a warmer gentler bass with a little more wobble, go for the JBL 'GT5' ported enclosure
i'd go with a good set of front components
a 4ch amplifier
along with either a 6" or 8" sub mounted in a modified stealth shelf,(this could be ran either 'infinite baffle' or, if you box the sub in, sealed)....
you could even create a shallow enclosure below the shelf and mount a 10" sub...
best advice so far ^^^ by a country mile....
budget at £300;
4 ch amp---JBL GTO 1004E LINKY
front components---DLS B5 LINKY
12" sub---JBL GT4 EBAY LINKY , the link is for a matching pair, simply sell the second to a mate....
then you simply require an enclosure and wiring kit...
doubt your actually seeing/hearing a competition car in that scenario mate, most, if not all competitors, boom with consideration,(out in the country where it affects no one), unlike clio, corsa pilots who believe they have the right to turn city centres and retail parks into night time race...
hello to all,
read the entire thread, very informative and interesting....
unfortunately i come up with a similar conclusion to everyone else, 'Dan R' seems to be sprouting regurgitated secondhand information that he doesn't seem to understand himself....
this thread is now being watched...
