Agree with most of what you say - I went from a VTR to a 172 Cup. However, if you want smooth power, try a 330! The Clio engine is anything but smooth, imo. Remember, the Saxo is quite old now, so it's going to feel loose and cheap compared to most cars. The Renault is a marked improvement...

The Cup fun far outweighs any of the comforts you get in the regular 172. You'll not miss them when you are punting the Cup along a nice, sunny, country road, knowing that it's only you and the car, with nothing interrupting the absolute raw feel of a proper hot hatch! No ABS, no traction...

Yes, it was a bad move and the consequences could be a nightmare (insurance, excess etc) but as you noted, if there is no indication then how can you assume anything? I'm not saying it was adam182's fault by any means but stopping/delaying would have been my first instinct.
