They had a surplus of proper Cup badges left over from the proper Cup sales. They modified them and stuck them on for a laugh so that people like you thought you were buying a better Clio. Fail.
This is rubbish as they were out-selling the 172's when they were released. They were cheaper too, which was another added bonus. They were never slated for making it a drivers' car.
It's more than that but the weight is the factor. No ABS, no air-con, thinner windows, wider track, lighter wheels...
It's more like what they did with the R26.R, except not so hardcore. To say it's just a 172 with less weight isn't accurate. The 182 Cup doesn't really compare in 'Cup' terms...
The Cup is the hero. Everyone loves a hero. Legend.
It's great reading all the comments from the regular sport owners trying their best to justify the toys over weight. They know they can't keep up!
The 172 Cup - the mans Clio!
Going form a Cup to the Cupra, the Cup was more fun but the Ibiza has surprised me. In gear times are really good and they are just as quick, point to point. They don't handle as well as the Cup but the brakes are immense. To say they don't handle is rubbish. I used to think this too but they...
I don't think the 197 looks dated compared to the 200. The 200 has grown on me but it still looks weird at some angles. I still wouldn't though and that spoiler is superchav! If someone had planted one of them on a 182 they would have been shot down!
Wheels totally make or brake a car, imo.
