Wouldn't bother with 4 pots mate, been there done that and they're total overkill for a part time track car. Spend the cash on something like Bilsteins or BC's instead.
Lively is definitely not for me, I had a 'lively' moment going through Island bend last time out at Oulton, I was like a granny through there the rest of the day, losing 2s a lap over last time out. I blame the rear cage for stiffening the chassis up .
Back on spring rates, just doing a bit of reading at its a mine field. Some say you want stiffer rates at the rear on a fwd car so weight isn't transferred backward losing front end grip, which makes sense. Whereas others say stiffer rates at the front. I know this varies form car to car, but...
AST's are not an option for me really unless a decent used set come up, I cant justify spending the same on coilovers as to what the car is worth. I don't do enough track days either. BC's will feel like a huge step up for me currently running budget ECP springs and OE dampers.
That's the RSX kit out the window then. The BC DR kit is only £866 with adjustable solid top mounts, versus the KTR kit with top mounts at £1200. BC DR's it is then, just need the best spring rates for my situation now, track car driven to and from track with the odd weekend blast....8/8?
@JamesBryan does that mean all 4 corners can be corner weighted with the BC's? I though it needs to be a full coilover set for a full corner weighing set-up?
SPAX RSX are another option on suspension and are a full coilover kit, but not many reviews. I'm torn between these and the BC BR's with solid top mounts.
A modern ECU factory map 'should' be able r****d the ignition timing to prevent engine knock when lower octane fuel is used, and advance the timing once it sees more desirable fuel again, no issues there. Is this the same once the basic off the shelf 98ron map has been uploaded (presuming it has...
Off topic slightly but one for the guru's. Recently fitted a rear cage, an old MSV one which bolts into the front and rear seat belt points, now on my first track day after fitting I had noticeably more oversteer. At first I thought it was down to a slippery damp Oulton and worn R888s but after...
Next on my list along with diff and cams, but coilovers first as my current set-up is really holding me and the car back on track. Will go with BC Dr's/Spax RSX or a used set of AST's.
This, I just normally have a mate in the pits ready to check pressures straight after a hot lap, then go straight out again to test, rinse and repeat until they are 30psi all-round hot pressures, takes a few laps but once set they are consistent throughout the day, unless the weather changes.
As above, new shocks, lowering springs and re-alignment and you'll be sound, maybe change the tyres as well as they look near done. I can get up to - 2.40 with AMAX springs and camber bolts
